emissions Q?

emissions Q?
failed emissions today.
at 15mph the limit for NO ppm was 1144 i had 2107
at 25 mph it was 1034 i had 1808
HC at 15mph was 7 limit was 400 or so, at 25mph i had like 8 and the limit 500 or so.
i talked to the guy who i always go to see, and he says "guaranteed to pass" formulas only help with the hydrocarbon levels, and i need a new cat. i am too lazy right now to put one on, and its almost the end of the month, so i need another way to pass her.
B18B motor in a 92 hatch, meaning some of the PCV hoses arent hooked up too...would that affect NO levels?
any ideas?

Use higher-octane fuel. High combustion temperature makes NOx. Hook up your PCV hoses, that might help a little.
How were your CO & HC numbers?? If they were way good, then look for a way to richen your mixture. Like slightly higher fuel pressure? Borrow an FPR from a GSR, but maybe that's TOO high?
Your NOx numbers aren't exactly 'borderline', so this simple stuff might not do it. If your cat is bad there's not much else to do...

Agreed retard the timing nox is created by combustion temps in excess of 2500 degrees and excessive pressure.
most likeley your cat is dust

for some reason i have a hard time believing the cat is bad. any other ideas? do "guaranteed to pass" help with nox.?
my HC numbers are great, posted in the original thread.

Check for exhaust leaks, the added oxygen can help clean HC's and make them really low while the heat from the extra oxygen may also help increase NOx at the same time. I had a friend with a punched cat blow super clean but he barely failed NOx because his exhaust leak, he replaced the cat and barely passed the HC's but it did. So its very well possible that your cat is toast.

If you want to check the cat take a temp reading before and after the cat the cat outlet temp should be 200 degress hotter this means the cat is working

right befor the test, take out ur air/intake filter, if lowers h2 and co levels.
Make sure ur car is at normal op temp.
dirty egr valve is a great minus also.
run the highest fuel grade u can, and put in some octane booster, because it uses a higher octane base in its composition.
those are facts that help.

cant believe no one mention this yet, carbon build up! heard berryman (i think) works, but more tend to go with sea foam (napa auto store)...i did, brought my nox level way down and passed smog, also try colder plugs, oil change, high octane gas you can get, retard timing although they hear in cali they check your timming, if you hc & co numbers are cool you do not need a new cat! from my experience anyway...hope that helps...oh by the way them octane booster thing = crap
