Car Overheating In COLD weather???
I'm Having a weird problem with my car overheating and it only seems to happen when its cool outside. Up intil this last week its been hot outside. I could drive home from work with the A/C on in 100 degree weather no problem. But When I go somewhere at night or lately on my way to work in the mornings when it's still cool outside my car will start to overheat. Even with the heater on full blast I barely made it to work this morning.
Lately I replaced the relays for both fans and they are working properly. About 6 months ago or so I replaced the thermostat with an OEM one. I also replaced some temperature sensor that threads into the block. Not sure if any of that could be the problem. I picked up a AutoZone Thermostat and am gonna see if that changes anything. Anybody have any suggestions?

Chances are that it is your head gasket. I am having the same problem. I replaced the thermostat, radiator and temp sensor and the other day i noticed i was leaking coolant and it had oil in the mixture... Either that or it could be your water pump.

i replaced the headgasket not too long ago. I just dont understand what the temperature outside has to do with this. I would think the warmer oustide the worse it would overheat.

Re: (DrewDown)
since the last post the problem started getting worse. The car would overheat pretty much all the time even with the heater on blast. Then I noticed the lower radiator hose wasn't getting very warm. I went ahead and replaced the thermostat once more and it didnt change anything. Then I decided to flush the radiator. that helped a lot I could now drive the car without any problems as long as the climate control was turned to the red and the A/C was off.
I figured this must mean a clogged radiator so I bought a brand new one and put it in last night. Drove it around for a test and same problem. So I am stumped again. I'm selling the car to my brothers friend as soon as I fix the problem so I dont want to replace parts that don't need it. I still don't think its the headgasket but maybe the water pump. Is there a way to check that? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Re: (DrewDown)
the colder temp wont do anything.
first of to check if its a headgasket the free way start the car with the radiator cap off when you start it if lots of air bubble come out of the radiator the gasket is bad and air is getting into the cooling system. do a leakdown test to do it the right way.
if that doesent happen keep the cap off and let the car warm up look for flow across the upper portion of the radiator. if there is no flow the water pump isint working to its full extent or there is blockage in the cooling system
to check for blockage in the radiator take the hoses off and run water through it there should be a steady flow.
also check that the thermostat is not staying open or stuck shut check by using a digital pyrometer to get the temp of the witer pipe (before the thermostat) and the thermostat houseing after the thermostat there should be a 20-30 degree differnace before the thermostat opens. and bearly anything after the thermostat opens.
also bleed the system of any air
