Can worn Engine/Tranny mounts cause bad/hard shifting?
Just a general question but I was wondering if severely worn engine and tranny mounts could cause difficult shifting (hard to get into gear) and/or grinding. I've replaced the tranny fluid with redline and it improved somewhat but I still have trouble putting it into gear some times (1st will grind when putting it in at a stop even with clutch all the way in), and while driving, it's sometimes hard to put it into the next gear or it will just grind until it's pushed in.
Clutch fluid is also fine.
I do know for a fact that the engine mounts and tranny mounts are very worn. You can almost rock the engine back and forth by your hands. Any suggestions?

yes they can make it hard to shift but i would also think about the syncro's being bad. but if that is the cause everyone here is a big beliver in gm syncromesh tranny fluid. that is sappose to get rid of the grinding gears.

your clutch fluid may be full, but how many miles are on the clutch? Could be worn.
Also, does you thowout bearing make any noise? (car in nuetral, let clutch out, listen for rattle)

Well if i rev up and drop the clutch, it grabs very good and never experience any kind of slippage. Wouldn't that mean the clutch is fine?
GM Syncromesh huh? Never even heard of it. I always thought redline was the best. I'll look into that but maybe later since I just spent $24 on redline (used almost 3 qt).
No noises come out of the clutch...

If you do the urethane, make sure the mounts are centered before putting it in, otherwise the motor and trans will not be centered. There will be more vibration transmitted.
Have you tried flushing out the clutch fluid? Old fluid or a bad master/slave cylinder will not fully release the clutch and give exctly the poor shifting you are describing.

Well I actually DID change both tranny and clutch fluid. Both did improve the shifting slightly but not by much.
I am aware of the mount stiffening using 3M glue. That's what I was going to do but I was just wondering if that would even fix the problem. At least from what you guys say, it sounds as if it could.
I already did the 3M glue on my '94 accord. THis problem I'm having is actually on my '91 240sx and the engine mounts (from what I have seen on the internet) are nothing like Honda's so I'm going to have to see how it will work filling them up with glue becuase they have many open spots.
Thanks for the info guys.
