Default California BAR'D Engine JDM B18C Type R - Will this setup pass?

Hey guys, I recently just installed a JDM B18C TYPE R into my 2000 Civic Hatchback. I live in California and i would like to make this swap as legal . I was wondering if my car would pass the state ref (bard).

Here is what i got:

USDM P72 OBD2A
DC HEADERS
CFK SENSOR BYPASS
AEM V2 intake Card legal
BOSCH +2 PLATINUM
USDM OBD2 OIL PUMP
USDM INTAKE MANI
USDM VTEC SOLENOID
USDM CRANK GEAR KEY
USDM OBD2 LOWER TIMING BELT COVER
Hasports 3 bolt mount
Rear T-bracket
B20b p/s

Pretty much that is all I have replaced, before i go get my car ref, is there anything that i am missing? Another thing is when i am going to get it ref, what should I mark the engine as 2000 Acura 1.8L?

You should have no problems passing however the cfk is a useful sensor. If it was me I would just get the obd2 balance shaft gear for a gsr and get rid of the bypass.

YES!! Failed one time but I eventually got reffed. We'll for the first time I failed for having a bad cat. Apparently my cat had a pretty bad damage to it because it hit a speedbump pretty hard and cracked it. After that I came back, and the guy had nothing to fail me on and I passed everything was pretty much converted to USDM.
I'll take pictures of my pass tomorrow.

Can you update with pictures? I am currently looking for an example to use for getting either a GSR or ITR BarD in my 91 Si. Would love any help you can provide.

Did they check for matching VINs for the ECU to the engine? Or can you piece together a swap and keep all stock emission set up?

Just convert that 91 to the emissions spec of the engine and i bet you are good!

i am a little bit surprised that they passed it with the p72 rather than a p73 but i chalk that up to ignorance.

It was actually a p73 I mistyped it. However, I bought the ECU brand new from the dealer cost me an arm and a leg, was around 700. Since all of the USDM P73 came with an immobilizer I had to get that bypass, or else I was going to run a CEL. Was a pain but in the end, it was worth it I was actually pulled over like 2 weeks ago, asked me to pop my hood showed the sticker and let me go LOL.

Well, I'll tell you this an ITR is a lot harder to bar than a GSR. However it is possible it is just that find the parts are pretty much impossible. Pretty much if you are doing a GSR/ITR swap all you need to do is find the US counter parts of that engine, that is if you are doing JDM swap.

No they did not check for vins on the ecu/engine. My engine was actually reffed as a replacement engine because it was a JDM engine. All they did was check for a CEL, check for all of the carb legal stuff such as, cat, intake, exhuast mani, etc. ( They will check for all the numbers on the intake exhuast cat etc.)

Here was all of my research before I got the engine bar'd took me a year to all these parts, (these are for my car specifically)

** Engine Swap**
JDM B18C R
REGIS AS REPLACEMENT ENGINE USDM TYPER B18C5

-Evaporate Purge Valve (Purge Solenoid) p73 intake mani
-USDM type r p73 obd2b
-MagnaFlow Cat
-DC headers
-Aem Cold Air Intake
-Sparkplugs Bosch +2 Platinum
-CFK Sensor- Bypass
-USDM OBD2b oil Pump
-USDM VTEC Solenoid
-USDM Crank Gear Key
-USDM OBD2b Lower Timing Belt Cover
vtec pressure sensor
-knock sensor
AEM 21-412R, AEM Cold Air Intake System Factory Direct

obd2b>obd2a > OBD2b to OBD2a ECU Conversion Harness

cfk> bypass - .:FFS TechNet : CKF Bypass Trick :.

37820-P73-A04 = 00-01 USDM ITR
does have Immob, if not present then it was removed. (having it bypassed and removed causes the CEL to be on, but the car will run)

If you are looking for a JDM P73, search for a 37820-P73-003, 013 or 023.

GETTING BAR'D
37820-P73-A04 -ECU
17100-P73-A00 -Intake manifold
16400-P73-A01 -Trottle Body
15100-P72-A01 -Oil Pump
37500-P72-A01 -Crank Sensor
18160-P73-A10 -Cat Converter

Yes, they did! They seem to not care about those stuff, it's mostly the emissions stuff they care about such as EVAP, cat, intake, exhaust, etc.

The guy just checked if I had the correct ECU, and he saw the harness and continued checking other things. So I guess they don't really care.

This happened at both ref stations I went to. At both Skyline college and some ref station in Sacramento did not care about the harness.

That cool, last time I went to state ref my civic, they wouldn't let me run the conversion harness. So I had to source the correct ecu. This was years ago though, but then again Fresno state ref are dicks though.

There was this other time I went to state ref my 96 civic and they failed me cause I was using an Obd2 Gsr cataylic converter on obd2 Ls motor. I pass smog but fail visual, that what I call **** suckers!

wow such great information. I recently picked up an entire 1994 GSR swap from the OG car, 3rd owner. He is swapping to a K series so I am getting everything related to the engine from the cat up to the engine harness!

I was wondering do you really need to change the jdm manifold oil pump throttle body n etc to usdm? Can you still pass ref with just the stock jdm block with carb intake carb header obd2 cat and the usdm 73 ecu?

Yes, you really need to make the JDM engine operate like the USDM ITR engine for the USDM ECU to play nice.

Referee will no longer certify JDM engines.

it was literally the first question I was asked - “Is it a JDM engine?”

His off the cuff comment when I prodded a little about it was that “Subaru guys ruined it for everyone, so we only do US market engines now, period.”
