Breaking in my built B16????
Ok so i just dumped 5k into my motor and waited almost 3 months of downtime.. It will be done next week........ anyways, I was told to break in the motor for the first 1,000 miles or so and pretty much drive it like my grandma, but is there a way that I could just adjust the cable of the throttle so that I wont be tempted to max out the throttle without first braking in the motor properly..... Crazy thought, but i was thinking of maybe putting a little block underneith the gas pedal so that it can only be pushed 1/2 way down so that i can't go very fast!!!!!!!!!!!! any other ideas???? Maybe i will just tape the reciept to my dashboard of the cost to built up this motor and remind me of how much $$$ money it cost.... Is it is VERY important to break it in ???????????
I replaced Cams,[JE 10.5:1 Pistons], Rods, bearings, flywheel, vavletrain (valves, springs, seats, port and polish) and a bore out .002 to equal roughly about 1.7L motor and a balance...............................I also have a JR supercharge pushing 7psi.....
How much power I expect to gain with these mods of Internals??????

Yes it's very important to break it in..Don't know if it needs to be for 1000 miles, but better safe than sorry...Don't you have some kind of engine management on it or Hondata or similar ?? I'm planning to go for a Hondata on my car and then when I have to break it in I'll just set the limiter to 3-4k and maybe put in a speed limiter if possible..
But take care to break it in properly and get to a dyno afterwards and post the numbers here

I am on the same boat as you...about 5'gs on my motor also......put 5 miles on it so far.....but I was told that if you baby it too much the rings won't seat correctly. I was told to give the motor alot of load......downshifting slightly , going through the RPM's fast but not high, etc. But important of all try not to stay at a certain RPM for so long.....it just needs to go up and down...up and down....if anyone has any other tips please let me know also.

I am in the same boat. I had a GSR motor built. I am wondering what would be the best route to break a Honda motor in? I have heard after 10 miles, go for it, but I dont beleive that..

try not to drive on the fwy/hwy, like others have sed dont keep the RPM constant. make sure to vary the RPM, even if you do HAVE to drive on the fwy/hwy. 1000 miles should be good for the rings to seat. i've heard as early as 500 miles and you should be good to go, but hey...your the one that spent 5G's, so you make the call

most people take it easy, but once they start getting on it problems arise.....but other people i know, smote the living snot out of it from the first mile. they never seem to have problems and are beaten to death every day.
I guess if you smote the **** out of it you would know if you had a bad bearing or out of round journal real quick.
P.S. I did NOT type smote.....i typed smote.......or if it changes B E A T
