Rear threads on coilover are destroyed. What now?
the threads on my rear coilover are shot. completely, 100% shot. i can not move the collars at all, either direction. i tried to have a short fix by throwing the illumina picture on the car for now, but it wasnt low enough.
my question is, what do i do now?
i know i can cut them off and redo the threads, but what do i do about replacing the collars? has anyone done this before?
it sucks because i know skunk2 doesnt sell the coilover individually... or at least i dont think so. anyone have any insight? help a slammed homie out

I would definately try calling them to order a replacement. Don't just assume they don't sell one when that could be the easiest fix.

dunno why you would hit the threads with a screwdriver...
even if they are corroded.. wd-40, pb-buster or some penetrative lube and time should have loosened the collars up....
from the picture, i don't think you can cut those threads off and redo it..
those threads are on the shock body itself....
call skunk2 or buy a new cheap set of coilovers... D2, BC Racing, etc...

Yea was wondering if you meant you got pissed and hit it or something. But that explains it. Good luck finding a replacement.

Looks like purchasing a new set is in your future. When replacing shocks you should replace in pairs, not just one. Years of rebounding does change the dampening of a shock, so dont replace one side without replacing the other.

So I ended up milling the lock rings off. the threads look brandy new now!
I'll post pictures of it when I get home. I cleaned up the threads and found the problem why they wouldn't move.
So here is a cliffhanger BUMP!

all cleaned up, with a couple of chunks of medal missing:
how rusty the actual lockrings were:
picking up a set of omnipower sleeves. removing those lock rings and putting them on here.
I did contact Skunk2; their response:

if you tke the shock to a machinest, he may have a die to run down the shock. you may have some metal chunks missing, but if the rest of the threads are fine, then it should still be ok. it wont be perfect or asthetically pleasing, but it would be ok
