Default Question on 91 hatch suspension setup???

About a year back i made a trade with this local dude for a set of D2 racing adjustable coilovers. I haven't had the time to set them a bit higher so I've been riding around pretty slammed, and my front ball joints need replacing. So my question is... The ride isn't really what i like. It's kind of rough and it pulls left and right a lot when breaking and slowing down, this might be cause of the ball joints. I was just going to see if anyone could give me some advice on maybe a better set of coilovers that might be a little less rough, or would it be just as beneficial to just replace the springs? If prompted for a new set what would be a good brand to go with, coilovers and springs? any advice is appreciated.

Thx man.. im not really looking to lower it. I just want a good performance feel along with a comfortable ride. What would you go with if you were gonna do this? Price isn't to much of an issue. Just don't want to spend an *** load.

If you're looking for comfort, use lowering springs. They are a lot easier on you than coil overs.

Before spending money on a new set of shocks and springs, make sure to replace every last broken and worn suspension component. Bushings, tie rods, ball joints, etc.

The pulling left and right under breaking is usually caused by work radius arm bushings. (the bar that goes from the control arm to the front cross member. I usually throw urethane bushings in there.

Ive worked at a shop for 3 years now and I own a 91 civic SI.
1: The gentlman who said swap out all your bushings is 100% correct! Could not be more righter.
2: Comfort wise the Gentleman who said go with spring is also totaly correct.
3: Going with springs does not do much for your performance wise. Your application is the most important. You want comfort? Performance? Or both? I currently am useing the Omni Power Type R coil over system, fully adjustable for height and dampening. However when I set my car for the track I have to remove all 4 and set them. Then reset for daily driveing. PAIN IN THE ***. I do know that buddy club sells 3 kinds of coil over kits the cheapest I believe is like 700 buck or around there. The most expensive is like 1400 bucks. The middle in the N+ version which has a pillar ball upper mount and its a 16 point adjustable coil over where you set your height and WITHOUT EVEN HAVEING TO REMOVE THE SHOCK you use two fingers to adjust how soft or how stiff the dampening is. So you turn it to 16 for the track and then 4 or 5 for the drive home and the soft comfort feeling. They are warenteed as well. I know these guys carry em. Just go to buddy club tab on the site and check em out. They also offer free tech support just call and ask and they can tell you all kinds of crap. www.InlineFour.com
4: You want to get the ENERGY SUSPENTION BUSHINGS KIT. Comes with every bushing you can think of for your car.
5: When the care pulls to the right or left you say, do you start to turn and then the car fly even further into that direction without you steering more into it? In other words when you turn the wheel in a turn does the car go futher than it is supposed to? If it does then your Tie rod bushings are shot your looking at about 50 bucks each I JUST ORDER SOME 2 Days ago! And alighment will also help usualy around 60 bucks but you can get em some places for 40.
6: Look into and inovative traction bar to illiminate the sub frame and no more bushings problem, car is lighter and traction but is better in every way.

Thank you for all the knowledge...
When I'm braking from high speeds my wheel jerks a bunch.
It also does that thing you were saying when I turn it jerks in that direction.
I would like to change out those bushings. If I buy that set that you were talking about would it include everything I need? And where can I buy it?

Hey whats up bro, alright then what I suspected was absolutly right. The steer wheel jerking side to side at high speed is those balljoints being SHOT! Just so you know, driving your car from this point on especialy on the freeway or at all, is VERY DANGEROUSE! I recommend you dont drive it from this point. What I use on a common bassis is Bernardiparts.com This is a wes site for honda specficly and its a general idea of what parts cost now adays. Keep in mind these prices are up for change, they may say one but no matter where you go they will more than likely update it. But use the site to tell people "HEY I CAN BUY THAT ONLINE AT THIS PRICE WHY YOU TRYING TO HAGGLE ME!" Normal I wouldnt give that site out on here, however for a while I never posted on here I just read what people said and just by reading I built my WHO CAR AND ENGINE thanks to Honda Tech So I will never hold anything back from the people on here.

So go to bernardiparts.com type in your cars information, then go to chassis and select steering gear box. What you need is the left and right Tie Rod the part number for the right one is 53540-SH3-013 and for the left one 53560-SH3-013. These parts will come with everything you need. I just ordered my set through these guys www.InlineFour.com They also ship. I live in Santa Ana in Orange county Cali so im able to pic em up but they also ship. If you wanted to order them, you can just call them on monday and they can order them for you and have em shipped to you as soon as they come in. If you would like a more direct route your welcome to pm me and I can get you them myself and send em too you if you would like.

Now when it comes to installing, DO NOT PAY ANYONE TO DO IT! They will rip you off! Just jack up the car take off the wheel's ( DONT FORGET TO PUT JACKSTANDS!! LOL ) You take off the 14 mm nut and I believe a 17mm wrench and unscrew the tie rod and screw in the new one. Reasemble and BOOM YOUR DONE! So your looking about I would say 110 to 120 bucks plus shipping. So if you get offered anywhere else higher than that let me know, and I can hook it up. I have been RIPPED OFF SO MANY TIMES! Its not even funny! So I now pay back THOSE SHADDY ******!! AS much as I can by helping people on here. Let me know if theres anything else you need. Whats your current suspention set up right now?

Man u are probably the nicest person I've met on HT yet. All tge other people just diss me for not knowing **** lol.
My current set up:
D2 racing adj coilovers
Blox LCAs
Can't remember the strut bar name but it's not oem
And everything else is unknown. I bought the car from a used car lot and have progressively remade it into a new car... Lol
I just want to turn it unto a good reluable little car to gve for driving around town.
I recently installed a new radiator.... It has a new alternator..... Abought a year old paint full MACCO paint job.... And when I bought it the first thing I did was the general stuff like replace the Dizzy cap new spark plugs and wires.
The only other problems I'm facing other than suspension at the moment are.... Number one my engine just isn't big enough for me. It's only a 1.6 and it seems like everywhere I go I have to keep it in the red. The last problem I'm facing is by far the worst.... My tranny doesnt seem to be working properly. All the gears are fine except my first. Seems like it's so short I can't even use it. It's not messed up or anything just HELLA short, and the clutch pedal sticks up a lot.

Hey my friend so sorry I have not gotten back to you. I have been occupied with military obligations. Yes replace the tie rods. Those come with the bushings on the end of them I just bought me a set and have yet to put them on. In regaurds to your engine it sounds as though you have alot going on. Energy suspention sells a complete bushings kit for about 200 bucks and its EVERY SINGLE BUSHING you would ever need. I bought the tie rods from Inlinefour heres there # ask luis or dave and they can get em for you. Your look at around 100 to 200 bucks. For you engine you may want to consider a motor swap, as it sounds like your engine may be dying. You can do a japinese swap for like 500 bucks for just the motor or buy a used b16 jdm's are pritty resonable. What issues do you have right now?

Please tell me why lowering springs are more comfortable than coilovers. Sleeved or full bodied or otherwise.

I'm tired of people perpetuating myths without any remotely factual basis.
