Default Poll: do you run stiffer springs in front or back?

Quick back story: I PayPaled $700 to another H-T user for a set of used Koni yellows and Ground Controls. From the very first time we spoke, I told him I need ~550f, ~450r spring rates. He told me that his springs are at least 400 in the rear. I agreed to buy the spring, and paid him.

Now he tells me that the springs are 430 rear (which is fine), and that the fronts are 350 (NOT fine). He tells me that everybody runs softer springs in the front.

I know that some people run stiffer in the back for more oversteer, but most front-motor front-drive setups are stiffer in the front and ALL non-custom-rate aftermarket springs are stiffer in the front (speaking in terms of Civics/Integras). I just want to see a poll so I can show him. He will not agree to refund me my money, because he is dead set that I was wrong to assume the front springs were stiffer (even after I told him I need ~550 in the front).

350 front is not a very aggressive spring rate. I wouldn't lower the car too much if you are tracking it. Even for the street I think 2" drop would be pushing it with those rates.

350 front is real soft...

My idea- Open a paypal dispute for the refund difference of $60 and purchase your 550lb front springs, then send paypal your email documentation so they call the case in your favor...why send everything back for a refund and deal w/the non sense when you can just get new front springs?

Exactly. He himself initially told me that he tended to bottom out in the front a lot. I like a stiff suspension and won't settle for less, especially since I'm paying for the specific name brands I want and I don't exactly have a ton of money to be throwing around.

Are you saying that you can order 2 new Ground Control springs for $60? If so, that's not horrible. Then again, instead of paying $700 for these used shocks/springs, I could have bought a brand new set with custom rates for $799, and had the parts shipped right away and installed by now. That's why I'm not willing to accept his deal - I can spend $99 more for a BRAND NEW set with the spring rates that I wanted all along.

I am also considering running my old Skunk2 springs on the GC sleeves, if they're the same inner diameter. They are 550f, 440r.

*edit: I see springs sold individually on ground-control-store.com for $59 each (not sure if that includes shipping).

aahhhhh...

My apologies, I knew I stumbled across that number here recently but I wasn't aware that was for 1 spring.

If that's the case I gotta run w/you and shoot for the full return/refund.

GL OP.

Thanks man.

Honestly, the seller sounds like a legit good guy. He just ended up issuing me a full refund, and I'm seeing if I can still help him out by possibly buying the shocks without the springs - if I can find a set of Ground Controls with spring rates that I want and at a price that makes sense.

I would pass on the shocks as well. For one reason. Koni only honors their lifetime warranty to the orginal buyer. So if they ever leaked/blew, your out of luck.

350 is way the hell too soft in front lol

Yea, I thought about that too. He was getting me a receipt and said it'd be fine if I just pretended to be him if I ever needed to get a shock replaced, although who knows if it'd actually work out if it came down to it.

Although I didn't have the greatest experience so far, at least he issued me a refund so I could decide what to do at this point.

That may work, but good luck on whatever you chose to do!

It also depends on what you plan on doing with your car as far as choosing spring rates.
Off the shelf rates for GC are 380/250. I'm running progress coilovers and they are 350/350 and it's perfect for what I do with my car.

I would mail them back for the $700 refund and spend $799 on a new setup. You don't get the warranty on used konis.

With a quickness!!!

The warranty is definitely a plus if I end up getting brand new parts. My car is just my daily driver, but I like stiff springs regardless.
