Noob alignment questions
i bought a 95 eg civic about a year ago from a private seller that had already done a b16a swap along with rear control arms, and aftermarket shocks all around the car (i believe they are KYB AGX). ive had it about a year no problems. i havent done anything to the car other than routine maintence. i noticed the tires were wearing down alot on the wheelwell side. i went to get an alignment today and the guy said he couldnt do anything cause the threads on the tie rods were messed up and the car is so low that there is no space on the front end. he reccomended a camber kit for both the front and rear to adjust for the difference in ride height. the alignment machine said i was 1.6 and 1.8. as far as i can tell, they are stock springs.
should i go ahead and purchase a front camber kit (washers on the rear) and new tie rods or go for the rear kit as well? also should i change to adjustable ball joints? i see where lots of people reccomend the skunk2 and ingals kits. im trying to keep the car for semi cheap and dont want to replace everything if i dont have to. also, when shopping for tie rods, do i go by the car year/make or by the motor? any advice would be greatly appreciated

dont touch the camber. 1.6* is not bad at all.
just fix your tie rods so you can adjust your toe properly. thats what is wearing your tire unevenly. go by the car when ordering, engine has nothing to do with tie rods.
what was your toe readings?

ha, thats hugely gross toe alignment then!
lol.
rereading your post says you have stock springs! so how does your friendly tech point you to getting a camber kit??? that makes no sense! what doesnt make sense either is why is your car "low"? now im confused.
anyway, this underscores the point that its NOT camber that wears tires, its TOE.
focus on fixing your toe. thats all you need to worry about.

You need to see it yourself, honestly. When on an alignment machine (any of them), the "sensors" which are put onto the wheels need to be centered perfectly or the reading will be off (i.e. camber, caster, or toe) when you car could be near perfect in any of these areas. Now, i am not saying your car is fine, it very well may be off- alot.
But, in many cases, if the "sensor" is turned, or not perfectly straight (up and down) the computer will show the caster as off (the camber is the way the wheel pitches front and back (think of it like you holding your arm out in front of you, and bending it 90 degrees, then moving it left and right- like windshield wipers- that is how the camber angles...well, upside down though.lol.)
So, not to get off on a tangent, but you should check first, dont take his word for it.
Secondly, if the wheels are wearing down on the inside it either is an indication that 1) your car is too low- putting to much stress on stock suspenstion
2) your caster is jacked up
3) you need an alignment
hope this helps

You never explained how your car is "lowered" on stock springs. Please elaborate...
