New Brake Rotor help
Alright well i'm still pretty new to cars and this is the first time ill be changing brake pads/ rotors. First off i have a 94 civic ex. I bought these ceramic premium brake pads so i can change all pads on my car. When changing the pads i noticed the new pads seem to hang off the rotor a little but rather than the old ones that had the whole pad on the rotor. also they are loose in the the metal frame thing that you put the pad into. And when trying to put the caliper back on the pads where to far out and i could not get them on all the way so i had to put my old pads back on.
So now i'm thinking these are premium pads.. Maybe they don't fit on stock rotors? My rotors look like crap anyway and i have been wanting to get new ones and now i have a somewhat reason too. If i buy premium drilled and slotted rotors are they bigger than stock ones? Will the pad Fit on these correctly? Do i need larger calipers if i get aftermarket rotors? I'm asking so i don't buy something that i cant use again and be in another situation after buying the rotors.

Re: New Brake Rotor help
Ok, first of all, as you drive and brake, your pads and rotors wear and become thinner over time. The piston in your caliper is what squeezes the pads on the rotor, you must push the piston back in to allow your new, thicker, pads to fit over your rotor. You can do this with a big C clamp, or even large channel locks. Loosen the cap on your master cylinder reservoir, and push piston back in slowly so you dont have brake fluid shooting out all over the place. Having the cap loosened will relieve pressure as you compress the piston back into caliper.
As for your "premium" pads. Premium refers to the material only, and is more of a marketing term. But is sounds like you may have received the wrong pads. if they don't match perfectly the size and shape of your old ones (not talking about thickness of course) they are wrong.
Now rotors, if you buy a cross drilled replacement rotor they will be the same size as stock unless noted. Then your talking about a "big brake kit." Which is a whole other thread/s. I recommend you have your rotors resurfaced with every brake change by the way!
Hope that helps, and good luck.
Return those pads and make them give you the correct parts. It is not uncommon for parts store employees to make mistakes...just sayin

Re: New Brake Rotor help
Thank you for mentioning that. This usually only applies to rear calipers as a method of applying the parking brake. The "cube tool" can be picked up at any auto parts store for cheap. I actually used a gasket scraper on my Integra, but I think I will try a large file. Thanks for the tip.

No problem man! And yeah, the times I have seen it, it's been for the rears. I remember trying to compress my rear EM1 calipers and not knowing wtf I was doing wrong

Re: New Brake Rotor help
I ended up getting cross drilled and slotted rotors all around. the pads i was sent only the back pads fit correctly, Luckily the existing pads where not to bad. Turns out i have a warped rotor. So replaced all of them. left the front pads on and changed the back.
