A little history first, I bought my car with Koni yellows with stock em1 springs and strut mounts/tophats.

I recently purchased ground control coilovers and gc tophats for the front for my em1. My question is, when removing the upper retaining nut at the top of the strut shaft, how do i hold the shaft in position for removal of the nut. I know on the factory unit, an allenhead key is used to hold it still, but on top of the Konis, all it has is the adjustment tip.

Ive searched and read all the install guides but cant find out how do I hold the shaft on the Koni's still for removal of the retaining nut without damaging it with vicegrips or something of the sort?

i always have used an impact to get them off. I am not sure if this is common place though.

That is one option, unfortunately, I will be doing this project at home without the use of air tools since at work, Honda dealership, I'm on limited time to finish it and would like to be able to take my time and relax and do it right and not rush.

Anyone else?

If you look closely at the Koni, there's a hex head on top. I think it's 8mm but it's been a while. If you stick on wrench on there, it'll keep the shaft from turning. Then you can use another wrench to loosen the jamb nuts.

If that doesn't work, you can try a strap wrench but you'll need a friend to pull it tight while you brake the jamb nuts free.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, what you're saying is just above the threaded section at the top, and just below the tab for the adjustment ****, the threaded area is cut off and theres a hex head to hold onto?

If you look closely in this picture, you'll see the flat sides for a wrench just above the threaded portion.
