Default Help, Koni install for a 97 civic

On the stock front shock's I'm suppose to take off the thing on the bottom that sets on the fork that keeps it from going down in the fork. But how do I get it to stay in one place on the Koni stock? This is for a 97 civic ex and with Koni sports.

Thanks
Alex
