Default Ground Control locking bolt

Anyone have any tips (besides using pb blaster) on how to remove allen bolt that is on the locking sleeve collar?

The last thing I want to do is strip it.

BG "In-Force"

that stuff trumps pb blaster x 1000

have you tried some heat too? i am not sure what direct flame from a small torch would do to the anodizing on the collar, but if you can focus the flame on the set screw, it will transfer heat all over the damn thing and might help break it free.

you could also try some of the In-Force, let it work itself in...then make a shield to block everything BUT the set screw. then, hit the exposed set screw with some sort of cryo spray right before you try the remove it.

bring that **** over here, i'll get it undone ; )

I don't want to try heating it up with MAP gas....but might try that as last resort.

"in-force" .... where do i get that... I've never heard of it before.

Also if all else fails I could just ship you the 2 sleeves.... ; )

i think if you can keep the flame off of the collar you will be a-ok. it might even be beneficial to stick the key in there and heat the key in the middle somewhere - the heat will transfer to the screw after a while and of course to the surrounding alu collar pretty quickly.

i get it off the BG truck - BG sells to garages and stuff out here, they do various service fluids and treatments, etc. http://www.bgprod.com/home.html

i know it sounds crazy but that in-force stuff is pretty impressive.

i remember back in the day when progress first made their threaded body coilovers, i got one of the first production sets...this was 1998 i believe. well, they shipped them with inset set screws that held a spring and ball against a detent...STEEL set screws in alloy sleeves. the obvious problem is if you don't use anti-seize, steel will absolutely bind up and practically weld together when threaded into aluminum. so, after trying everything, i just dremeled the collars off and had them send me collars with screws that were ribbed and not inset. of course i put anti-seize on them that time, and the fact that they had a head on them made it so if they ever did get stuck you could simply grab the head with vice grips or something.
