ive had experience with ebay coilovers, and they were too bumpy, so i went with some skunk2 coilovers, decided to go with brand name.

but considering the vast $$$ difference, the skunk2's r still bumpy as hell.

and to be completely honest the ride quality is the same, thinking of jus returning my skunk2s and goin bak to EBAAYYYYYYYYY.

anyone have any same experience? another thing is people say ebay coils dont last as long and are dangerous setups. anyone have any horror stories of ebay coil setups, or anyone out there riding with ebay coils and still completely fiiine?

its feels harsh cuz the spring rates are higher than stock.. skunks are better quality than the ebay ones.. if u pair the skunks with adjustable dampening shocks then u could mess around with how stiff or how soft the ride is..

It will depend mostly on the quality of damper you are using.

You can't just buy a set of coilover sleeves with stiff rates, install them over stock dampers, drop the car to the ground, and expect it to ride well - regardless of the brand name.

As far as horror stories, I've never heard of one. My first hatch I had back in 2001, I installed ebay coilovers on stock shocks. As far as I know, the guy that I sold it to is still riding on it. Rode like ****, but I don't think the struts have blown yet.

blown doesnt mean it u could see grease.. it means the shock is done.. u could tell its done if u press the car down it rebounds slow or just bounces takes a few seconds to stop.. if it was good it would rebound pretty quick and not bounce

tein, eibach doesnt make aftermarket replacement shocks... if u want aftermarket shocks look into tokiko illuminas or koni yellows.. ebay coilovers should be fine but i still wouldnt trust the quality...

There can be a big difference in the quaity of the spring material, the process in which its wound and also the springs memory. Any of the lower priced ebay slipover coilovers will have to cut corners somewhere in order to get the price that low. The few ebay slipover kits i have seen and tested didint have the advertised springs rates, the spring rates from spring to spring varied quite a bit and the height of each spring was different.

If your 16 making minimum wage, have very little experience and dont really care about anything else but lowering your car to the bump stops and bouncing around town, then its the perfect product.

If your looking for something that has after purchase support, will last a while and will compliment a nice aftermarket performance shock then spend the money and get a "brand name".

i had ebay coils on my 04' neon and my 97 civic and i have skunk2 coils on my 99 integra.
the ebay coils did the job no doubt about that but my shocks did blow but what can you expect with that kind of stress on them. Also i think the ebay coils are a shorter stack unlike my skunk2's which i believe are a 7 inch coil which i assume will have more travel for a little bit softer ride but it is really all in the struts and dampening so i have seen

what car is this going on? get some coilovers that offer custom spring rates, get soft springs and adjustable dampers, so you can set the firmness yourself. also you might want softer side wall tires. stiffer side walls give a stiffer ride, or the bigger the rim, or smaller the profile of tires also give a siffer ride.

do you have some proof on that? That's the only thing that bothers me a bit, but since I don't have data it's still in the "can" and "may" realm.

some don't even have a spring rate advertised, but my last data shows a 5% spread in rate per kit. This includes the equipment acuracy and the error from reading the data from a graph.... the actual number was 4.99%
That's pretty good and the spread was quite linear, so you cound actually plit the kit into 2 pair of springs and have better than 3% difference.

Does anyone have data on the springrate variation of the brand X coilovers?

height variation.... well it was a few millimeters, but i never cared because who cares of actual spring length on a coilover?!?!?
again, anyone have such data on brandnames?

now that's a really good argument.
but then again, 10 china/taiwan kits vs 1 GC..... That's a tough choice

ooo, btw, perfect measured linearity for the cheap-ebay-springs ( not that a mechanical engineer would expect something different from a simple spring )

so, cheap kits are definately NOT for people who have specific demands and need them met. But for people who are not professional racers.... get 4 cheap kits pay for the measurements, choose 4 out of 16 springs and go go go

You missed the whole point of the product entirely. No coilovers are designed for ride quality, and no one in their right mind installs coilovers with the intent on improving ride quality. No aftermarket springs are superior to OEM in terms of ride quality and no company has attempted to improve ride quality over oem with their aftermarket springs. Honda has already tested different ride heights and spring rates and came to the compromise that gave a good ride quality vs decent handling and safety. There are no aftermarket companies that even have the time, budget, and expertise that Honda has when they choose the ride height and spring rate for their vehicles. Has Skunk2 spent several years of R&D putting a test vehicle against every conceivable road condition? If they did any R&D at all, it was at the race track; a place that your vehicle will never see.

Lowering a vehicle and stiffening the spring rate decreases ride quality for the sake of less body roll. Many ricers such as yourself lower their car for looks. I can safely call them ricers because to imitate a race car to try to impress people makes you a wanna-be. Ricer = wanna-be + car. That's all fine and good. Do what makes you happy. If you want to be like the Fast and Furious, driving a wanna-be race car on the street, you're going to have to get used to bouncing your head on the ceiling and scraping your body kit in your driveway. That's the way it is, even if you buy the flavor of the month brand coilovers.

eBay is not a brand that makes coilovers. If you want the best possibly ride comfort in your Honda, keep the oem springs and buy some nice OEM replacement struts. KYB GR2's are good for the money, and if money is not a problem for you, you can try some low end Konis.

If you take offense all I can say is that this is my honest to god recommendation and the best answer I can give to your question.

well anytime you lower your car, you are lowering the center of gravity. but there are different types of springs. some are more linear than others. some are progressive, some are made from titanium, less unsprung weight. cheap springs tend to sag more than others. etc etc etc
