Control arm bushings replacement vs frequent tire rotation
1998 Honda Civic EX coupe purchased 9 months ago. Had a recent 4 wheel alignment and was told that my trailing arm bushing are worn out. He said it would be expensive to replace the bushing (if I paid someone) and I should buy used tires and rotate them every 3k miles instead of replacing. Is this good advice?
Also, would worn bushings cause the car to jerk while shifting at low speed and decelerating?

Wow who ever told you that is a fool that should never work on another car again. It is about 75 bucks for two new OEM bushings from honda. I bought a press from harbor freight and did it myself. It is easy to do if you have basic mechanical knowledge.

I agree with both statements above. Don't go back to that technician and buy some bushings, the only thing that is stopping you from fixing the problem is you. So take care of it.

You don't need a press for trailing arm bushings.
A brass hammer and the bushings are all you need.
You will need another alignment though.

^ x2. Unless you live in an area with a lot of undercarriage corrosion, you should be able to tap them out. The brass hammer is key. If the car is lowered, don't forget to mark the position of the bushing before removing (with the car on its wheels) so you can clock the new bushings to match your ride height.
Worn motor mounts sure could, especially the lower torque mounts.

Re: Control arm bushings replacement vs frequent tire rotation
I plan to remove the bushings in two weeks using OEM as polys seem to get bad reviews. Watched a few vids on it and looks straight forward. I will still need to get aligned afterwards and that garage was the cheapest 4 wheel alignment around $65. They did a good job aligning it last time, just thought it was odd he offered that advice. I'll also get a brass hammer as suggested.
Thanks for all the replies and specifically to spAdam for "Worn motor mounts sure could, especially the lower torque mounts"
The car is not lowered and undercarriage is in great shape as it's been a Florida car for it's life.

Re: Control arm bushings replacement vs frequent tire rotation
They didn't try to sell me tires even though mine needed them at the time brought it in. They could have given me the option to come back after I replaced the bushings before they did the alignment at that time. I'll take it somewhere else when the time comes. Thanks.

It's actually the only guitar I own that's remained completely stock. I bought it to do a baritone neck but fell in love with it. One of my good friends got really into building amps a few years ago and started his own company. Have you heard of CEC?
