Icon2 cheap ways to lower car???

i have been thinking lately that lowering the front of my car just enought to fill the wheel well would look amazing but i dont want to spend upwards of 600 bucks for coilovers... i already know that heating springs and cutting them are very bad ways to do things so would it be a good idea to use coil clamps??

clamps work if your looking for a half inch or so any more than that and you have to get longer bolts than what comes in the package. I tried them and ended up throwing them in the trash. give us some more info what set up do you have?

only problem with the longer bolt is if any of it is past the nut after you tighten it will rub the spring cut that part off. I've had more friends just cut one ring or a half a ring out of the top of the spring. then again neither the clamps or cutting a spring is a good idea. ground control makes a real nice adjustable height spring and it's not the price of a true coilover but you get the same effect without altering what you have. GL with it.

I'd say just go for springs. I lowered my old CD7 with springs. Works great for a daily and still rides nice.

If your bombing curvy mountain roads do you really want to rely on cheap spring clips and hardware grade bolts to keep you on the road? Save up the money and do it right, don't forget a good set of brakes as as well.

Horrible idea to do your suspension cheaply.

If anything suspension and wheels/tires should be one of the bigger budget items for modifications.

if your car has a DOHC engine.. you can use a SOHC springs in front it will be much lower drop compare to DOHC springs.. because sohc springs is much thinner and softer..

and also you can use 14 in or 15 in wheels with 50 series or 45 series tires...

or you can buy a second hand lowering springs...

low rider yoh!

I've also been lookin into lowering my 2001 Civic. I'm lookin at D2 Racing, Eibach Pro-Kit, or Skunk2 spring sets on ProCivic.com, or Ksport GT springs at CorSportUSA.com. Suggestions? Am I goin too cheap?

Save up and buy quality parts. Took me 5 months to save up for my Koni/Ground control set up and it was worth EVERY penny... and Im fuggin' cheap.

But here's the thing: I HAVE to stick to a tight budget. I'm 19, I'm a student and I'm getting married in 9 months. I'm so excited to marry my fiance, but you can see how that would make finances pretty tight. So, if you HAD to sacrifice and go with just springs or somethin instead of full setup, then what would you suggest? A full setup is out of the picture.

^x2

I would suggest focusing your efforts on something other than your car if finances are that tight! Try focusing your attention on your future bride and your tight finances. You would be better off keeping your car stock and safe than risk damage using cheap parts. Going the cheap route will end up costing you more one way or another!

Eh, thanks, I'm actually plannin on goin to med school in parker, too. And yes, I am most definitely not neglecting my future wife. Lol she's so much more important than my car. I'm only workin on my car as long as we have some extra money to do so, which means that my car comes in dead last priority, but still somethin I enjoy doin.

Okay, so answer me this. Is it dangerous to just put springs on, with stock struts? And if so, what are the dangers? I've heard it might blow my struts, but I don't know if that's accurate.

When i bought my GSR it had blown shocks because the retard that had the car before me had some no name sleeves on the stock shocks. It was the most horrendous ride ever. If i hit a bump it would not stop bouncing, unbearable. If anything, buy shocks and springs together or save up for some lower end coilovers. Don't waste time and money by buying springs and shocks on separate occasions and having to do the work twice.

You can get by with a lower on stock shocks for a while, but I wouldn't do more than 1"
