How low are you? How many miles were on the axles before you lowered it? Details, details....

there is about a finger gap, and they are old axles, but i heard that oem axles will just wear out premature when lowered so i wanted to upgrade.

If you don't drive too hard OEM or replacements will last a long time...I have 450 000 KM's on my 95 and they are still good, and I have a bout a 2" drop.

Stock axles are fine, unless you're drag racing with a ton of horsepower. But then it's the power that's breaking the axles, not your ride height.

FYI the axles are situated at an angle when the car is at stock height. Lowering the car doesn't really bend the axles any more than they were designed to, and in some cases might be more straight than they were at stock height.

The claim that lowered cars wear out axles is a straight-up MYTH.

Actually, that dpends on the severity of the drop. The axles are at an angle to allow lateral movemont in the transmission as well as the spindle over any bumps and obstacles. If you lower the car too far and the axles are straightened out, they will stick further into the transmission as well as the spindle. This can cause binding when going over obstacles, turning, etc. So yes, loweirng a car can adversly effect your axles.

Learn about suspension geometry and how they're designed before you spout off useless ****. I have seen it time and time again.

The solution is to shorten the axle the appropriate amount that it still allows you appropriate travel without being too short. Any QUALITY axle shop will be able to make them for you. I recommend Raxles, personally.

I know about Honda suspension geometry, thank you very much.

And ummm the joints do not move a millimeter inside the transmission and the spindle. They do not "stick farther" into the spindle or transmission, ever. The only thing that moves laterally on a CV axle is the tripod inside the inner joint cups. The axles are designed with enough lateral movement throughout the full range of suspension motion. Lowering the car only puts the suspension in a different location within that range.

Not to mention thruout the suspensions arc of travel the spindle will move further away and closer to the tranny in very close relation to the arc of the driveshafts.

Honestly, something like Raxles makes is really a waste of money unless you're putting down a ton of horsepower.

My car has been lowered for the past 6 years and 160K miles. Both of my rebuilt axles were replaced under warranty after the last set had at least 100K miles on them.
