Anyone running w/o the brake booster?

Anyone running w/o the brake booster?
I'm reading up on all the brake upgrades available for my 93 VX hatch, and I've noticed places selling the block off plate for removing the brake booster and running a Tilton MC. Just wondering if anyone has first hand experience with this mod and what kind of changes it brings. I'm can live without power steering, but it's been a long time since I drove a car without a brake booster.
Thanks,
Frosty

I've not done it, but I've driven the car whilst being towed which is pretty much the same and there is no way in hell I would want brakes like that.
Just to throw some figures in, an average driver can put up to about 70lbs on force on the pedal, which multiplied over a 4:1 pedal ratio is about 280lbf input to the MC.
The booster on the 1" MC is I think 88sq.in. And the manifold pressure on over run is about 10.5 psi below atmospheric. 10.5 x 88 = 924lbf maximum effort from the booster.
That's a lot of force to replace!

My brake calculator has an input for manifold pressure. Change the input to 0 to see the effect removing the booster would have on the pedal force. It jumps from 70lbf to over 200lbf!

Re: Anyone running w/o the brake booster?
I have personally done a brake booster delete twice on 2 different cars and I can honestly say it doesn't bother me at all, and my del sol which has it done I daily drive 45mins each way to work on the highway and city driving and it doesn't bother me.

I believe some people have tried it by just blocking the vacuum port on the manifold but you might want to look more into that. Try it out with no vacuum just to get and idea.

Removing the brake booster is, for lack of better wording, incredibly stupid. I don't know what your goals are, but it sounds like you have a wad of cash to burn on something that, you hope, returns the same brake performance you had before. You would be wise to spend it elsewhere.
Given the damage to ricers around these parts, they need more brakes, not less.

Btw, in orser to get proper pedal feel you need a tiny *** brake mc to compensate for the loss of the booster.
Theres nothing wrong with running with no booster, ive driven disc brake cars that came like that original. It just takes a proper setup that takes the mechanical/hydraulic forces into consideration

Re: Anyone running w/o the brake booster?
remember before power boosters were popular, most cars had big *** drum brakes which made up for some of the loss of not having a booster, no logical reason for removing it, unless you are one of these remove anything that will unbolt,to shave under the hood, guys

Re: Anyone running w/o the brake booster?
Thanks for the input. I understand it will take a smaller MC. I was hoping someone would reply with what size they went with to give a good point of reference. I'm certainly not into "rice". I simply saw the block off plates were being sold by more than one company and figured there was some good reason people were doing this. It would be nice to remove the booster for a cleaner look under hood and help with any clearance issues that may arise. From the feedback, I haven't heard of any good reason to do it, yet.

Re: Anyone running w/o the brake booster?
I did the booster delete on my Civic, and while it takes more effort to stop the car, it stops perfectly fine.
Removing the vacuum line from the booster is plain stupid, it doesnt accomplish anything.
I used a Kens Kustom Chassis delete plate and a Wilwood 7/8" MC.
