Default b16 air conditioning

well spring is here and its getting hotter than ever.. And ive decided to put my a/c back in my rex.. i pulled all the parts out of the box in the garage aside from a few bolts and then remembered i had a b16 an not a d16 lol.. so now im trying to figure out what bracket i can get that will let my d16 compressor bolt onto my b16, without buying that expensive hasport mount.. ive heard delsol vtec mount? any help would be appreciated..

can AC be installed on a B16 while in a CRX/civic?

cause my B17 (same size as B16) came with AC compressor, and my CRX already had AC, but i was told that the AC compressor on the B17 would not fit. and after the B17 was installed it truly does look like it would not fit down there.

my car does have some minor front end damage, so that could be a factor.

Uh, unless I'm mistaken I think you're wrong buddy. Please someone else confirm this, but books and articles and sites have said that for EF's that the bracket needed to bolt your a/c to b16's is the hasport one.

pssst.... \/ price is neg

wait a second here! Let me just get this straight...

For example: a 91 CRX Si w/ AC. Swap a b16 in it. you'd loose a/c because your D-series comp doesnt bolt to the motor and the b16 compressor has different fittings.. so far correct?

BUT go buy a DEL SOL VTEC a/c comp bracket and the d-series comp will bolt to a b16.. AWSOME.

Not sure if this will help you but..

I used the PR3 a/c bracket that came with my B16
and adapted it to fit my Sanden brand compressor..

The front two (top and bottom) bolts did line up so I added
one more at the top-rear position and called it good enough..

I did have to make a slight dent in the crossmember and
also in front of the compessor pulley..

The triangle in the pic is where I had to grind it flat and tap threads
into it..
{I am using Hasport engine mounts so your results might vary..}

We just put Ac on a customers car at the shop and he had a 91 crx with the hasport bracket for AC. The bracket lets you mount a b-series compressor or a d-series compressor to the bracket.

This is correct. Either this or HaSport. It's not $100 bucks though. My friend and I bought both brackets at the same time when we switched cars. The HaSport bracket was about $180 and the Honda bracket was $200. This was about a year ago though.

i know that the del sol vtec bracket works for AC in 92-00 civics with b swaps, but can anyone else confirm 100% that a del sol vtec bracket will allow you to use a stock 88-91 d-series AC compressor on a b-series motor in an EF chassis? I can't figure out why hasport would go through the trouble of fabbing a part if there was an OEM part that would work perfectly.

I heard the Hasport likes to break a lot.

I've used the P54 on a B series with a D series compressor before. Not in an EF chasis, but I don't see why the chasis would matter.

Unless the a/c mounts on the 1st gen b16 are differnet from all the other B series, it's not going to matter.

The P54 is going to work across the board.

can i run my AC off of the compressor that was originally on the B17?

will there be any custom fitting issues(with lines and/or will the compressor actually fit)?

not sure, its something youde have to look into.

when i had my B16 compressor on the B16 and tired to hook my D series chassis AC lines to it.. 1 bolted on, and 1 was totaly backwards.. so either have some custom hoses made, or keep your D series compressor. also in a swap, you can save your freon.. thats where the money is. to me, a compressor is a compressor, B16, or D16... they still cycle freon.

You might be able to do this. But you will have a few issues to contend with. First of all, the hoses are not going to be right. You will need to have custom hoses made. This will cost money. Secondly, there is the issue of crossmemebr clearnace. Custom brackets like Hasport and Place Racing bring the compressor up higher to avoid this. But with a factory bracket, the crossmember will likely be in the way. You will have to hammer it, notch it, or buy a custom crossmember to make it work. And finally, there is the refrigerant issue. I believe the 1992-1993 GSR used R134a. And the CRX used R12. So you might have problems there. On the other hand, you could always use a 1990-1991 Integra compressor.

Places will not charge a R12 system, you have to convert to R134a.

I can still get R12 charged where I live.

You do not have to convert.

It's just that the R12 is about 2-3 times more expensive than the r134a.
