What a drop will get you
I lost it; rainy night, slick street, 90+degree turn. I wasn't even going that fast; 5-10mph. The tires broke and I tried to pull it around, but the curb was too close. I didn't want to mess up my rims, so I straightened the wheels and hit the curb straight up. The steering felt funny, so I thought that I had knocked it out of alignment, but the shop said that because my car was lowered the first thing that hit the curb was the front sub-frame. The front sub-frame broke loose and pushed the passenger side strut tower back. I have truly F'd up a nice car; 1k-1500 in damage. Hopefully when I get it back it will be as good as new. Wish me luck.

Ummm....what type of tires do you have, they can't handle rain? I wouldn't say that a 1.5" drop is the cause of the problem. That is not low at all.

The tires are YOKO Parada SPEC-2's : 215/40/17's
The drop is only 1.5-2", but that was enough to totally "F" my car.

How worn are your Paradas? I was surprised how good the wet weather traction was with those tires. Even at highway speeds they seemed to grip well.

Try about 6months old; probably 10K miles. They look like new. The way everything broke loose at such a low speed, I'm beginning to think I might have hit some oil; the turn was through an intersection.

I take automotive classes with my school and i've known for along time, that mechanics are theaves. Be very careful on how much money you should spend on this problem. It sounds a little bit squrrely to me. And on your honda thats not a subframe but a uni-body. Its hard to explain exactly how a uni-body works but imagine it as a puzzle. How exactly did you go sliding in that curb. Did your tires hydroplain?

1) No Ice on the road.
2) It was a low estimate. The insurance company just called to say that they appraised it at $2100, although there might be more damage when they tear it apart, yadda, yadda, yadda. I still can't believe this ****. The guy that owns the bodyshop is a personal friend; I don't have to worry about getting taken. He even offered to look around for used parts if I wanted to try to handle it "off the books".
3) Yes I hydroplaned, ie wet roads, corner, hit curb. Either that or I'm a total dumbass and can't drive.

sounds like he slid on something slippery it could have well slid at that speed as it would be similar to driving on wet ice... a lot of damage for a slow speed hit

actually since the car does not have a full parimeter frame, it has to use a front subframe aka engine cradle and a rear subframe with the unit body filling in as the frame in the middle of the car.
it does the following
1. less expensive to produce
2. saves weight.
