Simple Setup- 10 Seconds Right Off The Trailer!!
Just Wanted share my buddies Super Simple, yet effective setup with everyone here at H-T. Let me first start out by saying this car was just put together a few weeks ago and was built for the 11.50 Index, its a simple 1.8L on 12 Psi of boost from a T3/4 50 trim Turbo. The Car ended up going 10.98 @ 125.38 Mph at MIR's IREV this past weekend in only its 3rd run ever! This car was built and tuned by Herbert B. (LsV9KEZ) Heres the setup:
Chassis:
CRX weighing in at 2,200 w/driver (caged)
suspension is ground controls on stock shocks.
22x9x13 Inch M&H Slicks
Driven by Jose B.
Motor & Trans Setup:
Tuned by Herbert B. on Crome!
1.8L Stock Sleeves, Stock Rods, ARP bolts
B18c head cleaned up by Jose B.
Crower Stage 2 N/A cams
Skunk2 Valvetrain
Ported GSR (butterfly's removed) Manifold, 68 mm T-body
ITR Replica Pistons (around 11.5-1 Comp)
Tuned on pump E85
Turbo:
T3/4 Ebay 50 Trim on 8 psi (low setting) 12 psi (high Setting) Made 388 Whp at 12 Psi (dynojet STD) Full Race Top Mount Replica Manifold. Ebay intercooler/piping.
Trans:
Stock JDM GSR Trans with OEM LSD
Exedy Twin Disc
Im sure i have forgotten a few things but these are the basics. We are now debating whether or not to go for the 10.50 Index since we believe with more seat time, cooler air along with chassis tweaks the car could be in the mid 10s. Heres the time slip break down:
60'.. 1.823
330.. 4.896
1/8.. 7.278 @ 102 Mph
1000.. 9.281
1/4.. 10.981 @ 125.38 Mph.
Next event will be Imports vs Domestics, we'll have to decided a class! More to Come!!

toss some 23" slicks at it. I bet that 60 will drop...your leave a few tenths on the table right there

Damn nice work! I love seeing super simple setups do really well. Good power at low boost too. Have any pic of the setup and a dyno graph? I'm curious.

388whp at 12psi seems crazy high for an eBay 50 trim turbo. From what I've seen from those turbos they tend to run out of power in the mid 300whp range at higher boost levels. Not saying you didn't make what you claim, I'm just interested in seeing a dyno graph. None the less very nice work dude!

I have no clue on the turbo, received it in a trade, there are no stamping or ID tags, I was told it is a 52 mm turbo
Did not log any pulls, too excited to run, while on the dyno low boost stayed consistent as did high boost
Here's the dyno sheet

Nice that's badass! I love to see setups like this, super efficient and all the parts work really well together. I bet its a blast to drive too. Probably surprises a lot of people at the track too lol.

Great job! Did this car have to shift to 5th and kill its MPH though?
There's some weird numbers I'm seeing with 1/8 - 1/4 mph change relating to the 1/8 - 1/4 e.t. difference. Something doesn't seem right.

I was thinking the same thing, because it only back halved 23mph. I mean, the 1/8th mph is good for a high 10 sec 1/4, but the 125 seemed low to me too.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Only 23 mph on the back half for a 10 sec car isn't much at all. I have some thoughts on it though. 1st thing is the chassis, the aero on a CRX is pretty bad and any crx I have seen always seems to have a much better short track than back half. 2nd is it was about 78 degrees out that day and this run took place in the hottest part of the day, DA was +1400 feet at the time of this run so this could have killed a couple MPH off. 3rd is the fact that the 22 inch slicks put this car almost on the limiter at the end of the 1/4 mile so we might be on the decline of the power band instead of in the middle of it. But all of this Said 125 Mph is generally good for mid-High 10s in an efficient light weight setup.

Okay, I just talked to the driver and he actually backed out of the throttle in the last 100 feet and lightly tapped the brakes lol. So that's why the mph is a little lower. My guess is it would have been 127-8 Mph.

Re: Simple Setup- 10 Seconds Right Off The Trailer!!
Got ya! I figured something strange happened whether it was a last minute shift due to the 22" slicks or lifting off throttle entirely before the end. I 100% believed the setup did a 10-second pass (and kudos for doing it on the 3rd pass out with it!!!).
I was just finding the e.t. difference not lining up to the mph difference in comparison to a few cars I know. Mine in particular (430 whp and 2300 lbs) was:
7.10 @ 104 mph (1/8)
10.98 @ 129 mph (1/4)
I was just trying to figure out how on earth it would have made up nearly .200 on my time without having at any point a higher mph (especially with no shifting involved being all 4th gear from 1/8th mile on). LOL But the lifting makes complete sense. I think you guys with a few tweeks will be a 10.50 car for sure! I wouldn't be surprised with a 24.5" slick you'd get there right off the bat with low 1.7 60' times.
I was actually at IREV spectating. Was this a silver CRX? My friend I actually built his transmission for actually took home the win in the 10.50 class that day. I don't think he'll be racing the Import v. Domestics race though.
