Default overheating , 93 integra

i'm working on my brother's 93 RS. it has about 170K on it, radiator and tstat were replaced last year i believe. the waterpump and timing belt were replaced at 105K miles. my buddy is about to buy it off my brother, but all of the sudden it is overheating so we're trying to fix it before he buys it.

the coolant level is right where it needs to be so its not a leak. we started the car and watched the gauge. id say within about 6-8 min it was a notch below the red on the gauge so we killed the car. i noticed that the fan did not kick on and when i squeezed the upper rad hose, it was not stiff. like, the tstat did not open and allow coolant into the motor.

here is my though. replace the tstat in case it is stuck shut, and replace the coolant temp sensor(controls the fan, right?) the other reason i want to replace that part is the gauge was acting a little goofy when the motor wasnt running. after we killed the car to let it cool off, i put the key in the on position to check on the temperature. the needle kind of bounced around on the gauge.

anything else i should be looking at or am i on the right path?

Chances are excellent that the cooling system is just fine and that your problem is in the electrical system instead.

Chances are also excellent that somebody has chopped up the factory wiring to install/alter this or that, and has made a hash of the job.

Have you checked the oil at all? Milky oil would sure suck but pinpoint it, the not "stiff" upper hose make it sound to me like in aint full of water also.

Oil is full, coolant is full, no discolorations or anything. It was fine 2 weeks ago when we started it up and let it run for about 10 or 15 minutes. We're foing to replace the sensor and tstat this weekend and go from there. It just seems like its not opening up and circulating the coolant through the motor.
