Broken downpipe. What to do...? Weld or replace?

Broken downpipe. What to do...? Weld or replace?
Civic 1998 DX 3dr hatchback...
This happened on a long roadtrip. The pipe fell to the concrete on interstate. It was the original pipe. Now it sounds like a helicopter.
Is this weldable? If not, where do i go shopping for an oem or oem type downpipe? My entire exhaust system is oem (Honda). I replaced the muffler (it had a hole) with an oem Walker muffler recently.
Honda part number for this downpipe is
18220-S01-C21
And is $350+ everywhere I look for oem downpipe. Where can I find a more reasonable price? That's like 1/6 of my car's entire worth. What would you do? Will anything non oem but cheap on ebay fit correctly?
P.S. Is it safe to drive? Driving will heat up the interior of my car not just sound loud. Touching the emergency brake handle gets hot.

I'm going to get this above. Is that what yall would do? It's the center (B) pipe for $60 and free shipping.

^ This is great advise. The slightlest little things and fitment becomes a huge issue and then you spend just as much making it fit as buying the 350 dollar oem one.
Your 60 dollar buy might be just the thing to fit the bill but it's always good to verify with the seller if it will fit your exact make, model year trim and mod car before you shell out the dough.

Be careful backing up while that thing's hanging down there, e.g., over the curb of a driveway, etc. You never know what it might catch on and cause other untold damage. (Source: Had the same thing happen to me on a cross-Canada road trip in 2008, thought about afterwards how things could have gone horribly wrong if I did that.)

Might want to get some exhaust wrap from autozone or somewhere in the mean time. Only like $7-8 and will keep the pipes together fairly well. I always use a monster can and wrap that over the tape with 2 hose clamps, keeps cold water from breaking the wrap when its hot.

You can replace the entire exhaust system from EBay for less than $170.00 shipped to your door no tax. Just do an Ebay search "Civic Full Exhaust"
You may have to extend the wire(s) of the O2 sensor(s)
Or get it welded back on for like $50

Ha! All you're doing is repeating what others have already said. And I would weld that rusted to hell piece back onto the car. There's more rust that you can't see than you can.

Re: Broken downpipe. What to do...? Weld or replace?
I bought a new "B" pipe. Problem is one end has a 3-hole joint for bolting. My civic's original factory downpipe has a 2-hole joint for bolting to the B pipe.
I set the leftover part next to the wrong end for the picture. Notice near the top of the new B pipe there is a 3-hole connection NOT a 2-hole. TomCat39, I ordered from here ( ) and says it fits my car 1998 DX, etc. But its not fitting my car.
Here is the old pipe.
I'm not even sure this new pipe would fit if both ends were 2-hole. I havent even tried fitting yet. It's shaped differently than the original with the resonator in a different location and the hangers seem misplaced too. What would yall do?

Contact amazon right now and tell them you were deceived in purchasing your item. Tell them it needs to be returned because they lied to you told you it would fit on your car and it doesn't.
IMO, you're on the right track though. Welding up an old pipe usually leads to chasing exhaust leaks until you replace it. I believe the problem you ran into was buying from a less than reputable company, basically trying to be too cheap.
your other option is checking if it does fit and if you have to cutting off the old flanges cleaning them up and having someone weld them on the pipe while its hanging off your car

OP you need to read the comment Notes because they specify what it actually fits. Hatchback and couple have different lengths.

Gah ... in fairness to OP, Amazon is **** for this kind of stuff. Just plugged in OP's DX and at no time did Amazon ask me if it was a Hatchback or Sedan or Coupe. Not clear at all -- it's certainly no RockAuto.

Re: Broken downpipe. What to do...? Weld or replace?
he can probably still get an RMA by claiming the flanges dont work. And hopefully he learned the lesson that everyone tried to teach him, check & double check that the parts fit. Like tomcat said, call em to make sure. Trim, body style, and modifications all could potentially change part fitment. I guess this guy just likes learning things the hard way, I cant blame him I do it too
