new radiator hose is bent?
I just installed some new coolant hoses in my 94 LS and the upper radiator hose was not shaped correctly. I managed to trim off one end with an exacto knife and rig it up, and have driven it 60 miles since with no over heating, no bulging, no coolant loss whatsoever. My problem is the hose doesn't stay completely round the whole way through. The part where it takes a sharp 90 degree turn isn't a 90 degree bend on the hose, much closer to 70 degrees. So the hose seems "folded" a little bit. It doesn't hinder the flow of water. I was wondering if this will affect the longevity of the hose? I cleaned up the old upper radiator hose and kept it just incase.

Re: new radiator hose is bent?
the original hoses were prone to splitting open
so some manufacturers changed the design.
says here cut to fit :
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,2058
the hose i'm running has the full u shape to it kind of like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Radiator-Coolant-Hose-Molded-Coolant-Hose-Lower-Upper-GATES-21608-/131240639774?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AIntegra&hash=item1e8e8d3d1e&vxp=mtr
it fits ok without trimming = more coolant capacity.

Re: new radiator hose is bent?
So the question i'm asking is, will the hose having a slight kink in it weaken it's capacity for holding water? its a upper radiator hose, so having a larger cross section diameter mathematically means the pressure on the walls of the hose will be lower than that of a smaller diameter hose. I have the original hose still, it seems okay, but i wanted a new set for peace of mind. I was simply wondering.
Flow? Significantly, depending on the reduction in cross sectional area.
Be more concerned with flow than capacity. Much more.

No actually i trimmed it to begin with. This is how it sits trimmed. I tried holding it up various different ways to see if i could remove the kink with different lengths, and this was the best one i could come up with. MY question was, will this hurt performance of the cooling system?

You might try trimming the block side of the hose - the radiator side is a longer curve that can absorb being off axis better.
