HELP! Bad torque converter or whole trans?
I reeeally hope this is easily fixable, but doubt it.
98 Accord V6 AT. On my way home tonight it started failing to drive the wheels from a stop til near 2k rpm, fwd or rev. If driving it would occasionally bounce the tach upward like it had shifted without releasing throttle, and on deceleration would drop completely to IDLE!
I checked fluid and found a touch low but still on the stick. Added 300 ml Z1 ATF and still no change despite being above full mark.
As I ease the throttle to the catch point and it grabs, the Trans kinda shudders audibly, but not like a huge shock.
This is urgent. Need replies asap. Thanks ladies n gents.

Mileage?
When was the last servicing(if any) done to the transmisison?
Can you better describe the issue?
If I'm understanding this correctly the transmission will only work if you rev the engine above 2K rpm correct?
Does your CEL or D4 light work?
Are they currently ON while driving?
Beg/Borrow/Steal an OBDII scanner and check for any and all codes.
Post codes here.

Or go to this link > http://www.gvrdeu.org/Honda%20FSM/Ac...ccord%20SM.pdf
Dowload it.
AT information begins on page 511.

230k miles. No trans service since I bought at 183k. Fluid is clean and pink. D4 light works and doesn't blink. I dont think the CEL works. Low fuel light doesn't work either. Car shifts fine, always has. Even now once it's moving it's ok.

Re: HELP! Bad torque converter or whole trans?
They don't blink as in when you jumpered the two wire blue connector there was no code? Or there is no D4/CEL light lit? One funky thing about a few of the TCU codes is that they do not set off the CEL/D4 light even if there is a problem.
Best bet would be to use a OBDII scanner if your CEL lamp is not working.
With that amount of mileage it may be worth while to verify that sensors (TPS/THERMO/NM/NC etc) are within spec.
