Ferio-ichi3's first ever build!!
hey guys, after 2 years of talking of going b series, i finally made the jump. i doubt my build will be anything to write home about, nor will will it be a ***** out budget race car. im doing this a budget swap for my dd. i wont have alot to start off with, seeing as how the only thing i have so far is a b16 head, with ctr/itr valvetrain. Again, this wont be a super build, but itll be my 1st build. so to start it off, i picked up this b16 head for 275 bucks. guy i got it from didnt know it had type r valvetrain. i was expecting b16 stock valvetrain so if its indeed type r, itll be a plus!

Re: Ferio-ichi3's first ever build!!
i hear type r valves are the same as any b series valves besides weight. are there any size difference of the face? guy said his friend has type r intake valves, but stock b16 exhaust. i think this because on the exhaust side, it has F stamped on the bottom and are smaller than the intake valves. i met the guy today to pick up the exhaust valves, and they are bigger than the stock exhaust valves. so my question is are the type r exhaust valves bigger than stock vlaves? i included some pics below. i will touch on this subject on sunday when i put the other valves in.

In for pics of the shell!
Maybe try uploading to www.imgur.com instead and embedding as large resized images good luck!
note: You can add all the photos onto the uploader, upload them (not as album) then click on "generate multiple links" > "BBCode (message boards & forums)"

before you get cams get a block and decide WHAT C/R you want to run. I would have the head resurface just to be on the safe side of things. 275 not bad i'd do it just to have a spare head around. lets see the shell/body

You can see in one of the pics, one of the journals look kinda scratched/scuffed. Is that a problem, or is it ok?

Picking up thr block and crank today. Pretty hype. Once i get this, itll be rods and piston combo. Eagle rods with nippon pistons? Or ycp?

Damn, i cant even get one person to ask about the build? Sheesh....anyway, Picking up another crank today, and picking up the parts i ordered. Nothing serious, cam cap bolts, cam gear bolts, valve cover bolts, the end cam cap bolts( the longer ones), and some others thatll make the head complete. I called napa and, they wanted 58 bucks to hot tank the head. So thatll happen soon. The guy(same guy i got the head, type r tb, and now crank) says he have bnib acl rod/crank bearings. And wants them both for 50 bucks. And is selling me gsr rods for 60. Should i get that hot tanked also?and should i leave the valvetrain in? Im getting new valve seals anyway, so what should i do? First time builder here, please give me advice!!

$200 for a crank is ******* rape. They go for a bill at most, all day long.
If you're getting the head hot tanked, you need to completely strip it down first. I wouldn't worry about getting the rods hot tanked, but I would get them shot peened.
