Default 1996 Honda Accord LX- Exhaust pipe for CA emissions

1996 Accord LX 2.2l 4 cyl (non-vtec). Automatic transmission, CA emissions.

Need to replace the B pipe on my 1996 accord. According to mechanic, part number is 18220-sv1-315. According to Autozone, the correct aftermarket is Walker 55141.

I had a pipe I purchased from autozone, but I bought it before I knew my car was CA emissions, so it didn't fit (just my luck). And to make matters worse, he already removed the bad pipe, so now there's nothing b/w the cat and muffler, and the car is RIDICULOUSLY loud now.

Can anybody confirm that 55141 is the right part? Walker's website isn't much help.

Using 18220-sv1-315 the below diagram popped up under '1996 Honda Accord 4dr LX S.E.'

The note on 'S.E.' bugs me a bit. Note part #11. I have never seen that on any EX or LX model of accord. Unless this is something tied into the 'Special Edition' cars. IIRC the 'S.E.' models had some bastard bits that only the S.E. had. This would also account for why the mid pipe ordered was shorter than the factory unit. Also note the lack of a flex coupling after the resonator.

That's not the number I come up with... I'm thinking something is goofy, as that above mentioned exhaust does not look correct...

I don't think emissions has anything to do with it.
I looked up the below diagram under '1996 Honda Accord 2dr LX'

I also looked up DX, DX SV, & DX Anniversary models and they also used the SV1-C30 pipe.

So I looked up 1996 2dr EX and got this...

From what I remember, the only difference between a 2dr/4dr EX and 2dr/4dr DX/LX(non S.E.) was the EX has a larger resonator and diameter pipe. But the routing was the same.

Albeit if your mechanic looks up a mid pipe for a DX it will be the correct part number.

And that the proper Walker part number you need is 46865 or in Honda speak 18220-SV1-C30.

We'll discuss later where you can send the payment of brew and bitches to.

MAD MIKE, I have the same car 1996 Accord LX non V-Tec 4dr California Car. I bought some exhaust flange gaskets at O'Reilly and they are the wrong size. The ones I got are too big in diameter but that is all O'Reilly offers for my car. The diagram SV43-B0201F looks correct to my car judging strictly by the single muffler tail pipe. Most others have dual pipes on the diagrams. Do you have part numbers for those by chance? Or is it even the correct exhaust system?

Thanks

This is the exhaust diagram for the '96 Accords 2.2 that are LX or DX. f your car is NOT an S.E. then this is the correct diagram for your car. There is a different diagram for DX models, but seems to share all the same part numbers.

The exhaust system and wheel base are no different between 2dr and 4dr, but Majestics site automatically assumes you have a S.E. when selecting 96 4dr LX.

What gaskets did you order and what were the part numbers? Did they not fit?

AFAIK the pipe diameters may be different with the resonator pipe but DX, LX, and EX all use the same gaskets. Don't know about the S.E.

For one they gave me a crush ring, which I believe this car doesn't even have. Autozone has the same parts just different manufacturers. I think I will go with the Walker gaskets. I had already chipped away all of the old gasket so I needed to put something in its place. I used the crush ring and got it to seal somewhat from B to C pipe.

The exhaust flange and cat gaskets are crush type. You just need to press it in enough to get it to hold, then torque down each of the three bolts just slight tad bit at a time so they don't leak or they will leak if you go too much on one side.

mad mike is correct. at least for my 97 accord lx 2.2 cal emissions mid pipe-46865

fit like a glove

also used
honda cat to midpipe crushable exhaust gasket 18393-SH3-S00

used the walker bolts for the rear connection but used the honda springs, walker gasket with plenty of anti-seize

and I bought some high temp spray paint from the hardware store to cover the welds because they rusted out first on my last pipe.

so I sprayed the contact surface with rubbing alcohol, then used the whole can painting the entire exhaust because I'm an overacheiver

thanks mad mike
