Default 98 accord transmission slipping! Please help

Okay so i have a 98 accord with the v6 and an automatic transmission.
First of all. When the car is idling in gear. It sounds like there is water boiling. I dont know if that is going to relate to the problem or not but if anyone knows anything about it, please let me know. Now the main issue is within the transmission i believe. When you get on the gas and the car gets ready to shift its like it slips out of gear and the rpms rev up and if you dont let off the gas it will slam back into gear. It has recently also been slamming in a gear when i stop at a stopsign. It has just basically been slipping then slamming into random gears. I was thinking possibly a clutch issue? Or maybe several gears missing teeth? I do not know much about transmissions let alone an automatic transmission. If anyone can relate to this issue or anyone knows what this may be please let me know.
Thanks, jake

those transmissions are WELL known to be pretty bad and have a LOT of early failures. I am surprised yours lasted this long. basically it sounds like it is time for a replacement transmission.
