My new to me 1990 Accord ...Trans issue
I just got the car and i have to say i love it, but i do need some help. When i get the car up to highway speeds it doesn't want to shift into 5th gear. The odd part is when im climbing a hill and i put my foot into the gas some it will shift into 5th and then back down to 4th. Its an automatic btw with 233k on it. The trans fluid looks red still and doesn't smell burnt.
Ive searched around the forum and found suggestions like, thermostat and TCU.
Any other suggestions ?

lol its only a 4speed
what you might feel as a fifth gear is the torque converter locking and unlocking to save gas. mine locks solid like a manual at around 50mph, when you give it some gas it might rev up but its still in 4th,
use your judgement as far as steepness of hill and speed, you might wanna just downshift to 3rd/d3 if you have that instead of making more noise in top gear lol
or do what i do and haul *** before getting to the hill because the 4cyl sucks at climbing hills
