What oil are you guys using to lower consumption?
My father owns an 05 TSX (auto) as a daily driver. It has no mods at all. At 2k I have to add a quart of oil. The car has 107k on the clock and is very well maintained. No smoke/No leaks.
First, I thought it was because he was getting his oil changed at the dealership. They have (bulk oil) 5w20. So I started doing the oil changes with Penzoil High mileage 5w30. At 800 miles it was down .3quart.
I'm curious if any of you have slight oil burning and have found an oil to slow it down significantly or stopped it. I'm going to try Valvoline Max Life next.

Amsoil is a lil expensive. Gonna do a Penzoil Ultra change with OEM filter this weekend. See if that helps, if not maybe I'll try to Amsoil. It's really not excessive, but i'd like to eliminate if I can with a certain oil.

Currently using Royal Purple, love it. Have also had experience with amsoil and it is also phenomenal.

Acura dealership here in Scottsdale, AZ is using 5W30, instead of the "0W20" printed on my 2011 filler cap...

2007 CL9 in the tropics, been using Mobil1 10w30, rarely have to top off oil, at most .25 qt. between 3,000 mile changes. Car is only driven 6,000/year avg.

I switched it over to Penzoil Ultra 5w30 and no consumption as of yet. (1,900 miles) The car was on Acura's "bulk" oil which I think was 5w20 synthetic blend using about a quart every 2k.

The 06-08 doesnt seem to have the problem as much as the 04-05. I noticed the oil level has stayed full at the 2k mark now, and is also MUCH cleaner, almost as clean as new.

Im also having a burning issue. About ~1QT per 1000-1500 miles. Have been using cheap castrol GTX b/c i was buring M1 more and didnt want to spend on the synthetic when i had to constantly add anyway...
I would love to find an oil that doesnt burn but i really dont want to spend $5/QT on Royal Purple...

Re: What oil are you guys using to lower consumption?
I wish royal purple was $5\qt.
Just rebuilt my b18c1 and im using castrol full syn (Black bottle).
Before the rebuild i used to burn about a qt between oil changes.
I experimented with different weights, brands and nothing really seemed
to solve the issue.
In my case i think its just a tradeoff with running the engine upwards of 8k rpm.
A good test would be to change the oil and run the engine under 4-5k rpm for that entire
life of the oil until next change.

try castrol, i read in the ITR forums that people using mobil1 were burning the crud out of it. castrol seemed to work the best for me in my old built GSR motor. i had mobil1 in my k20 and i burned a quart and a half within 5k miles. i didn't leak a drop either

With the Penzoil Platinum I had to add half a quart at 2500 mile mark. I change the oil every 3k so I'm no longer worried.

Re: What oil are you guys using to lower consumption?
Its odd how some of these cars burn oil and some dont. I put 3500mi on my car and I might have to add 1/4 qt. I did leave the hose loose on the intake and took a 550mi round trip when I first got the car and it burned a quart of oil, I thought the motor was messed up but it had to be due to that breather that connects to the intake tube.
Have any of you with consumption issues done comp and leakdown tests on your cars? I am interested to see the difference I can do mine as a comparison.
Oh and I use Castrol, used it in my turbo car too. Tried Royal Purp in my turbo car and it made the motor practically puke oil out of several of the gasket area's, switched back to cheap Castrol and the leaks stopped.
