Default B Series 14:1 Custom Header~

Working with a friend on a custom header for his 13.8:1 B series all-motor car. Building a Stainless header 2" primarys; merge collector is a 3.5" outlet. We'll be building the exhaust system tomorrow. Header is getting welded this evening then to get some partial throttle tuning until the exhaust is done.

dude, not 100% sure but i think the choke on that header is way to big and prob going to loose power. Big HP K series dont even use a 3 inch choke. Either way though, it is looking very good.

When you say 3" choke, Do you mean the collector?
A couple of buddies of mine rock the 3" collector and make Nice power and there b and k setups. It must be the way they set the runners.
I like it though!!!

I was researching primary/choke and exhaust size yesterdfay before i was sidetracked to the articles on endyn's website.... is 2" primary standard for a 2.0L?

Your header looks great. once welded it should perform well.

nite 2nr... is the choke size coupled with the exhaust size tuned to maximize exhaust gas velocity, or what would make the difference in performance from header to header?

Trick, afaik choke refers to 3" at the merge, then you taper out into your exhaust size. these "tuned" type of exhausts are common on snowmobiles where they change size to tune for best power. I am just trying to confirm the solid reason that it creates more power...

i'd add a venturi and some anti-reversion chambers. what is his power goal?

heres a good link to headers from burns stainless, will help with all the terms

http://thespfiles.blogspot.com/2006/...ation-and.html

heres a little section in there too about hondas

Collector Choke (minor diameter) - This is the size the can make or break a good header This doesn’t need to be 3" unless you have something super weird going on with your engine. I have not design a Honda header yet that even needs close to a 3" Collector choke. I’m not saying it wont or cant happen, I’m just very skeptical of it

SlaminSohCivic: The throttle bodies have a coupled linkage so they both open up.

Thanks guys. Did some tuning with the car on Saturday and it's looking really good. The car is getting tuned on E85, I have a dyno video of the car that I will be sure to post up this week when I have a chance.

Coupled the custom DOC Race exhaust system to the header before we hit the dyno; still have to finish up the tips this week before we go to the track this weekend...

Fully penetrated without back purging on this setup. Has worked out just fine for us.

Although it may be fully penetrated, all the sugaring and brittleness is inside. I hope it doesn't crack, but it may do due to the fact that you don't have a flexi on there.

Definitely an interesting design though so props to you.

Hmmm, also noticed on one of the pictures of you evo manifolds it wasn't purged. This will lead to issues for the owner later down the road.

Looking good other then that

I was really hoping this was a 14 into 1 header.

this thread is a let down.

Also, I can clearly see almost zero penetration on the welded v band flange on the rear section.

Want to make it clear I'm not trying to pick on your work. Just observing what I see more then anything.

Any pics of it off the car?

:ToxicFabrication: No offense taken. I don't have any pictures of the header OFF the car after it was completely welded sorry. With this All-motor setup the way we built this system and welded it has worked out for us numerous manifolds and for years. I appreciate the concern Toxic.

Toxic you do some fantastic work!, I dont want to thread jack, but what happens when you dont back purge?

I ask this as I built a 3 inch exhaust for my H22 last month using flanges and all that and didn't back purge anything "I dont have the extra hoses" ... I understand the concept but what exactly happens to the metal when argon isn't on the other side of the steel?

Doc Race --- Its fantastic when your able to jack the car up and start fabrication... I had my civic about a foot off the ground when I made the exhaust and it was annoying as crap due to the fact that its cramped and things are upside down and backwards, you tig something and put it back on and its on the other side of your line and the wrong direction! things like that make me crack up and also frustrated at the same time. My exhaust setup I made with my tig I bought last year... Totally an awesome project, way fun and makes me wish I made all the exhaust setups.. The whole thread for ***** and giggles.

Although I don't foresee back-pressure ever being an issue with that setup!
