JDM B16a Mods?

Re: JDM B16a Mods?
The problem here is the block not the head, keep your head get a b20 block, slap the head on with a Ls vtec kit and arp studs and you will be very happy.
Better yet if you have a little more $$ it's highly recommended to upgrade pistons and do arp rod bolts aswell.... Latter on down the road buy a decent cam and you have a beast of a motor for way less then any b16 N/A build that makes decent power.
To each there own tho.... I love all honda builds

Re: JDM B16a Mods?
the nice thing about the b16a is its lighter and its really not that much money to get good hp out of it... i guess for some people swappin the head would be difficult but something like that for me is not so...... but i suggested the head cause hes lookin to get easy hp quick not do a full swap

Re: JDM B16a Mods?
The only difference between the type r head and the b16 head is the type r head had some port work done to the intake side. You would spend less on cams and some simple port work and get the same effect.
the difference in weight from b18 to b16 is almost negligible, so i wouldn't worry about that.
He could build either an ls/v or do some simple upgrades to his b16 and he'd get a noticeable jump in power over the stock b16. So we should be asking the op how involved he wants to get.

yes true just throwin some ideas out there... although the heads r pretty much the same to get it ported and cams w a tune is gonna cost anywhere from 1500-2000... or u can just get a c5 head, slap it on w a tune all for about 1100 so pick or poison

Sorry if I came across as a jerk, I was just stating that the heads are similar because it's possible that not everybody knows that. It depends on where you get the c5 head, but your option is a reasonable one.

Re: JDM B16a Mods?
What an idiotic statement.
In that case, the B18C and all the other 4 cylinder DOHC VTECs that came after it are nothing more than a glorified B16A!! My glorified 1.6L "noise maker" has beaten bigger engines, including the B18C and CR VTEC. Over the past 20 years I've seen the B16A hold its own against many more powerful setups.
$5000!!?? Again, REALLY dude?? That figure is not even close to being reality. Have you ever heard of Omni Man??
I understand (actually I dont) that you have some contempt for the B16A, thats your prerogative, but at least speak truthfully and intelligently about the engine if youre going to attempt to humiliate it.
Integrity is really lacking these days.
**Edit**
I didnt mean to sound like an *** but those comments really incensed me. Sorry for the harsh tone.

Re: JDM B16a Mods?
lol i try to tell people this but no one listens, i dont know why people think its hard to make power w a b16a or cost a lot of money it doesnt but people r gonna think wat they want. u can build a bottom end of a b16a and turn it into a 1.8L w/o sleeving for about 1k so im not really sure where the expensive part of that is.....

Re: JDM B16a Mods?
wow...so many horrible ideas floating around...
don't switch heads. the 1.6l block is the problem. a b16/type r head are borderline identical.
pandp should cost around 500ish tops.
after cams+tune+port of a b16 head will then dominate over the lil c5 head. even after the swap why wouldn't you get new cams/valvetrain and port it again? its just OEM on a 1.8 nothing too spectacular there. spend money to spend more? no.
put a b20 block on it and tear shi up.

Re: JDM B16a Mods?
how is sourcing a c5 head a horrible idea, why people have too talk **** on here, first off he said he wasnt looking to go crazy w the thing, dd, good gas millage, ect... i have a b16a head and the c5 head is a noticable difference, the cams r more beafy which makes the biggest difference w a port already done.... to go get the b16a head pp and cams assuming u dont go get cheap ones as in quality and get it tuned its gonna cost more money then to get the c5 head, not to mention u would then sell the b16a head and make some money back, if he said i want to go all out on it i would of just told him wat u said. im not knockin wat u suggested here but the question here is how much money is he willing to spend........
