Buddy,
Are you looking for WHP or BHP. If its WHP then you need deeper pockets as you are starting with approx 175-180 whp max(stock) maybe lower.

My old setup was 275 at the wheels on a dyno pack. My new one will be 300+ on the same dyno pac that is located in RLZ. The only allmotor car that has made more than mine on that dyno was T Bones. It was only 283 with a lot more comp and meth if i am thinking right.

my advice, take it as it is my friend... you have 2k.. i suggest buying 1k worth of tools, then spend 1k on driving classes, and maybe a racing seats, and steering wheel.
win... win... gotta think long term

1-2k.???
sell your type R IM, valve train, cams, headers, and pistons.
you should be at around 2.5-3k...
and replace all of those with longer duration and higher lift cams, valve train to handle the cams, and big tubing headers, ITB's, forged pistons.
might not be enough for PnP...
2.5-3in exhaust..
and save a little more cash for a really good tune...

Re: B18 type R. how to achieve 300hp??
$600 for motor mounts, shift linkage, cable/hydro conversion w/braided clutch cable
$400 for Timing Belt, Tensioner, Water Pump, full gasket set, new fluids, tune up
$150 for Hondata IM gasket & open the IM to match the TB
$500 for a decent 2.5" exhaust and high flow cat
$450 for an obd1 jumper harness, chipped ECU, and tune
thats just over two stacks right there.
after thats all said and done, you should be right around 200whp. that's plenty to get you into the 12's in a CRX. now granted, your swap might already come with EF motor mounts, converted to obd1, i don't know. if that's the case, use the extra money for good brake pads/braided lines, a good alignment, maybe some used coil overs, i don't know.
in case you're wondering, skunk2 intake manifold TB opening is only as big as the oem 58mm or whatever. its pointless to run a bigger TB with the air hitting that wall, opening the TB inlet on the manifold is absolutely necessary, and well worth the $100 a machine shop will charge you.

Re: B18 type R. how to achieve 300hp??
yeah well i have a few pieces to sell cause i was planning on boosting a GSR but i guess im just gonna sell the pieces now and i was gonna sell my LS swap, prob not worth alot but it has eagler rods and je pistons and a stage 3 comp. clutch so the extra money will help.
i can get this type-r swap for 3k and this is the jdm b18c stocked at 200hp not the b18c5.
I realize tunning and installation are gonna be very important in this, si o wanted to find a very reputable shop in the dallas metroplex to do it for me and get the most out of it.
and yeah 2k really isnt gonna cut it huh??
o well, im just happy with the JDM B18c as it is, ill see what i can get as time goes on

The 96-97 JDM ITR Motor has near identical specs to the USDM B18C5. Same pistons (P73A0), cams, IM, valvetrain, etc. I also own a Type R. In stock form it will keep you happy, trust me. Stock worrying about "big numbers" and have fun.

Re: B18 type R. how to achieve 300hp??
If i was you bro i would just get an ecu ,your not gonna make 300hp n/a on the b18c but if you throw a good ecu and a nice tune setup on her ,youl be able to bring out the full potential in some of those parts you already have plus your engine is gonna run smoother and easier...

Re: B18 type R. how to achieve 300hp??
250whp with a fully gutted will feel like 300whp .. or do a 250whp with a 50 shot :-]
Its Very possible .... alot of it has to do with labor $$ wich cost mullaaa .. but id wana give it a wilshot and Estimate on the price for labor and parts prob around 8k?

Re: B18 type R. how to achieve 300hp??
now the question is how do i get it to hit 300 horses?? Im not even sure if this is possible without going with F/I but i wana know what i can do to try to achieve this goal.
This is an original JDM B18C so its rated at 200hp not 180hp like the B18c5, it came off a 1997 JDM ITR.

It does require experience and knowledge to build that kind of motor but it's very doable.

Re: B18 type R. how to achieve 300hp??
Real Talk..
Nitrous Oxide Systems.
B series motors can easily make anywhere from 180-260/270 whp pretty easily now and days.. believe it or not its ALOT harder to make higher then 270 then people realize.. There's alot of limiting factors.. you dont need 300whp to be fast.. i preach this to alot of people all the time.
I'm building a CRX for a customer now that has a GSR swap and he wants to make like 400. You dont need 400whp in a 2000lbs car to be fast..
Research and find what you want to do. Instead of shooting for some insane amount of power, shoot for say a ET or Trap speed. You want to run high 12's daily driven. It'll take probably 220-230whp. Put a 75 shot on top of that and Lock it in.
2K to build a b series?? Thats a pretty decent budget build if you know what you're looking to do.

Re: B18 type R. how to achieve 300hp??
yeah well i plan to keep it N/A. i dont have the money or time to go F/C.
ok so im pretty sure ill be happy enough with the stock power is has, now what im trying to do instead of power gains is just to add little performance but mainly durability/endurance.
what parts can i upgrade for better endurance/strength??
im not looking to spend thousands of dollars just to gain 10hp, i need realibility here so..
new spark plugs?
new spark plug wires?
new fuel pump??
i dont wana change the cams because their so expensive, ive heard the stock ones are good enough. is this true?? i want reliability
i have tru time AEM cam gears which i planned on changing
moroso oil pan (already have)
springs/retainers??
performance fluids (obviously)
i cant really think of much more at the monemt
so what other pieces would be best to upgrade for RELIABILITY, i dont wana spend thousands of dollars to barely gain HP, ill be happy as it is with the stock power, now i just want it to flow smoother and be tough!

(thanks for all the support guys!, this is gonna be a great build if the guy sells me the engine!)

Re: B18 type R. how to achieve 300hp??
2k might get you 200whp on a minty type-r swap with some good cams and a solid exhaust/intake.
Don't forget the hundreds it will cost you to get a tune.
What's the point in raising the redline? What do you stand to gain? You can raise it all you want with a tune. Hell, remove the rev limiter entirely.
