Im pretty new to engine building so i figured id look for a little help. Im looking to rebuild my d15b in my 94 civic dx, and i was wondering what are some good options for power upgrades without swapping the motor or spending a million dollars. its my daily driver so i dont want to do anything too over the top, just something to give it a little more go. any help is greatly appreciated. also, would it be just as easy to do a head swap and go vtech?

You have much reading to do, i'd recommend d series . org or one cam only . com, these forums deal with d-series tech far more then i have scene here.

Simple list:
Compression
Cam
Head
Intake & exhaust
TUNE!!!

Just keep searching and reading and you'll learn alot with can only help you!

D16a6 cam with a d16y7 cam gear good for 10hp or so intake exhaust 2.25 or 2.5 inch Max. Also a d16z6 transmission would really help and make it seem feel faster compared to most bolt ins

The cam and gear are about $25 at a junkyard $8 for a new cam seal from Honda I would start there!

you would be happy with a d16 *correction, yes i meant the b7 rod* rod and a y7 piston. wih this combnation and a z6 head you would need to run atleast mid grade or better. your looking at something a bit faster than a z6 motor with the head/piston/rod combo.

you have to use a b7 rod

combination stated clearly *and corrected*- d15 rod, y7 piston, z6 head.

there is an adddition to this. you can use a d15 rod on a z6 crank.

I would have to agree with madmood. D16a6,z6,y7, and y8 rods all have a larger big end than a d15b2 or b7. To the op,Get an Si cam, y8 cam gear, timing belt & water pump, new spark plugs (maybe wires, cap & rotor), z6 intake manifold and throttle body, .040 milled off the head. And maybe a nice valve job if you have the funds.

a d15b has a 134mm rod legnth and a rod journal the same as a z6/y7/y8. d15b1/bb2/b7/b8 are smaller journals.

d15b vtec and non are verry common. anyone who has buil a number of d series would know this. a d15b crank will fit into a b1/b2/b7/b8. you must then use d15b rods, d16z6/y7/y8 rods are too long for ANY piston.

And since the OP is building a d15b7, he can't use a d16 rod. Im also not sure if he wants to be swapping cranks and what not since this looks to be a budget build. In my opinion the d16a6, and d15b2/b7 non vtec heads are better than the z6 head. Also onecamonly.com is madmood's site so I think he has built a d-series or 2 or 50.

good for you guys. why is he still trying to break 12 seconds witha sohc then?

y7 pistons will suit you the best. install them on the d15b7 rods, you will be fine. no height or clearance issues. mind when decking a head. some say .04 but that alone can cause valve clearances on y8 heads on a b7 block. i would say no to decking the head. it is easy horsepower, but not for someone who is not going to plasigauge the pistons to valves. mind vtec if you choosea vtec head, as you will need to lock in vtec to checkl clearances.

When you can run mid 13's in a 2300lbs car powered by a 1.5L let me know. And you need to post things that are true.. All of your info is a total FAIL!!! You should just stay quiet in the corner.

WRONG again! The d15b "vtec" is he ONLY d15 with rods that fit on any 1.6 crank.

Please stop giving out incorrect information.

OP .Get yourself a nice header & Intake combo, along with a good flowing exhaust . A good camshaft choice would be from Web Camshaft. Start from there and see how it goes...

WRONG once again!!! The d15b vtec has the same length rods. Although the big end is the same as the 1.6. It is really good that you leave. You have no idea what you are talking about.

lol. Yeah if you think so... But I build all of my D series stuff myself. If you call second rate tinting for movies , music videos , and Sports Stars. Then I am guilty. I dont think anyone would call the Lakers , Heat , Celtics players, Pimp my Ride, Ludachris, Xibit, etc.. second rate. Oh did I mention NFL star too??? Its ok. You are not worth it either.
Thanks for thread jacking this poor guys thread with all of your misinformation. If you knew how to turn a wrench, you might have the right answers...
