Default crash's 92 hatch

i bought this car without intention of fixing the bodywork on it but over the past 3 1/2 years, it really earned the work. it's been a good car, only needing plugs and wires.

a lot of door dings on this side and a dent in the lower quarter. you can see the pin stripe tatoo, it's on the other side as well.

after a tear down and wash, all hardware was bagged in order for a quick r&i. surface was prepped for paint. doors were removed to repaint jams for a color change.

insides are gutted and cleaned

i used hammers, dolly's and my dent puller for all the metal work. Panels where stripped with 80 grit on my 8in. da or "mud hog" the panels only needed a skim coat of metal glaze for the body filler. sanded down from 80 to 180 grit spot etched and sprayed with primer surfacer

hey man things are looking good so far. keep up the great work.
quick question. why bring it to bear metal?
the paint didnt seem to be too bad of shape.
but keep in mind if you take it to bear metal to use a epoxy primer or a red oxide primer to help with surface rust in the future
looks really good

i took it to bare metal on those panels because door dings spread out over the panel. etch primer was used on raw metal before surfacer.

the passenger door was replaced. i went to a local savage yard and found one that was in better shape.

at one point there was a lot of pressure against the intrusion beam, thats why there's dents spreading outward. the whole door was full of of waves and dents.

found some surface rust on the lft and rt upper apron / lower a piller. i used an abrasive "monster" wheel and my die grinder to dig out old rust and out dated seam sealer

after digging out more old sealer it was replaced with newer seam sealer.

the car was stripped down at this point, seats, carpet, glass and so on.

jams were bagged up followed by base coat then clear coat

thanks for the positive feedback you guys i appreciate it. the color is mancha creme i think. i didn't want it to be a car color or a metallic, i'm getting bored of everyone doing the same colors so i wanted something different.

there was some surface rust in this area so i removed it with a grinder and covered the area with self etching primer. after paint it will also be seam sealed

this area needs a little more work so i'll get back to it later

the right side quarter panel is roughed in, i still have some more sanding to do. this panel had minor dings and waves.

thanks you guys. i finished the right quarter panel and finished the other small surface rust spots on thursday and started blocking out the primer on Saturday. it took a total of twenty hours to get the car ready to take to the booth.

all panels were blocked out with 400 then 600

i chose a dark grey sealer to give the basecoat a little bit of depth since it is a lite color.

it's been a long weekend , im gonna sleep like a baby .

damn looks good. one thing to point out if this will be needed or not. maybe you should have rolled the fenders while they were not painted... that's only if you're going to do it or not.

but looks good as always.

also what did you uses to strip the paint with?
