Tranny Horsepower ratings
Whats up people, I was wondering if you guys know the horse power rating of the stock automatic transmission in a 97 cx. The stock motor is a d16y7 if that helps Thanks

I think the Y7 is rated 106 at the crank. With your auto tranny, age, etc., you're probably looking at 75-80 to the wheels.

Oh, I gotcha. I was a little confused when you asked because I was thinking, trannies don't make hp obviously. I don't know much about Honda autos unfortunately, the D series manuals can deal with 2-300 easy I think. What do you have in mind? If you want to go forced induction or something to make serious power, I'd probably recommend a auto to manual swap, the Honda automatics aren't very good transmissions from what I've heard.

For sure not going crazy just yet. I was looking into doing a mini me swap because i really new to the honda scene and i feel like thats a good introductory project to get me familiar with the engine. ALso if you dont mind me asking do you think a d16z6 head with 130k miles on it is too much for a swap. I have a guy whos willing to sell me a ported and polished z6 head with 97k on it instead, but i need all the other parts too. Thanks a lot for helping me out dude

Re: Tranny Horsepower ratings
the automatic tranny would be more than sufficient for a simple mini-me setup, however if your long term goals include going B/H/K/J series or forced induction, swapping to a manual is going to be very important.
