Also here is a mod I was reading about a tps filter to help the insight stay in lean burn mode. When attempting to go uphill, incline, you give it more gas. By getting on the pedal a bit more you disrupt the lean burn mode and it goes back to regular driving. With this mod it helps you stay in lean burn mode longer.

This thread has some great info that I was looking for. I currently have a US 1998 Civic HX with d15y5. I have been looking how to add the econo light feature to this car. It has Vtec-e and lean burn just like the d15b, but it isn't 3 stage vtec. My question is if the econo light will function with my stock HX ECU? Or is it a function of the P2J ecu? If I swapped in a P2J ecu would it run my d16y5 and still run lean burn? Thanks

I got the Econo light and lean burn function originally in my car, works great and comes on when i just cruise along.
A fun game to play when you're bored from driving and try to keep the Econo light staying on all the time, haha

Ok.I need help with the econo light triggered ground pinned at A30 on the p2j-003.I ran my D15 3 stage for over 150k miles with everything hooked up like stock. All the sensors and correct vacuum hoses. My motor was getting tierd so I swapped in a new D15 3 stage using the same car, ecu, and harness.
Here's what happened !!!! I accidentally reversed the wires on the econo light sending 12v keyed power to the triggered ground pinned at A30.I drove it like that for a few hours and everything runs great no CEl's but my econo light won't come on now after I hooked it up the right way.Maybe I fried the ecu just on that pin ???? I can run a jumper ground to the A30 pin and the light works fine.I just can't get the ECU to turn it on ? I hope lean burn is OK and it's just the light.Regular vtec seems fine.

Subbed. Lots of good info.
When I do the 3-stage Minime, I'll be using this as my bible to a point.

I'm leaning towards tony's answer on that one, maybe test it with a multimeter just to be sure in case you don't have it wired up right. I am curious though, where did you wire A30 to? I remember running a wire to my cluster but never figured out where to put the wire (gave up after blowing a few fuses). It's kind of been the last piece until I get my setup just like a true vi-rs.

To the cruise control light. Its wired right now.I can touch a jumper ground wire to A30 and the cc light comes on.I got 400 miles today on one tank of gas so lean burn works.I have a 98 hatch.

Tony, you think I fried the a30 pin on the motherboard?Maybe melted what a30 leads too.Wire is ok cause I even re pinned it.Is it fixable? I'm no good with soldering motherboards.

Tps is calibrated.Idle is set.Ignition timing is set and I tried two speed sensors and two egr solenoids for the 3 stage.Any other sensors effect econo? No cel's.Runs great, perfect smooth idle. Thanks,Dan

You sent a positive signal to a pin that sends out a negative signal. You basicly burnt the pin out, the wires are fine.

i know man, i've been off honda-tech so long I almost forgot about it. I will update it with correct info and some current pics of it all set up properly. Been running it over 3 and a half years and she still runs like a champ, never seen a CEL. the weather's getting nicer so I should be giving the car a bit more attention so I'll make sure i update this stuff

P2j-003 ecu for sale !!!!!!!!
Yes the A30 pin is burned out but everything else on the ecu works great.I'm selling this p2j-003 ecu for $210 shipped.I hooked up a new ecu today from ebay and the econo light works.I really don't even wanna sell this one but if it helps out someone in need.Just realize the econo light won't work at pin A30.Both vtecs work fine,Lean burn works cause I got 400 miles on my ek hatch before getting gas and thats what you will get in lean burn if you drive the entire tank like a wuss.350 a tank is standard driving aggressive. Also I know the ecu is fine as I had no Cel's but if I unplug the solenoids separate they both give a Cel.I did that just to test the ECU still controls both selonoids. Also wild cam vtec kicks in at about 5500 rps and lets you take it past 7200 rps before the fuel cut off.If vtec wasn't working your fuel would cut off sooner.Message me if interested.

Good to hear you're back on the road. I think a wideband would've been cheaper route but its all good.

I got the new one cheap. These ecu's are popping up more. There is an Obd2b p2j-j11 ecu in Irving Tx for sale at Aln jdm.You can even get the motor, tranny & ecu for $800 there. He's got manual motors, most places only have automatics.Ya I really didnt need a new ecu but I wanted the econo light for work since I drive 300-400 miles a day.

Re: JDM D15B 3-stage, P2J ECU, EGR, O2 Sensor, Wiring Checklist, PICS!
If anyone wants to buy my old automatic intake for $50 plus shipping message me.It's converted to manual with the iacv on the rear and a y8 trottle body. The Y8 TB has the tapped vacuum nipple mod on it like a stock 3 stage. So the whole intake looks and performs like a manual 3 stage intake. No ugly block off plates on this one since the Y8 manual Tb removes the 3 wire iacv.I don't need it since my new motor was a manual one.
