Default Fast left turn signal

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, and also a new Civic owner. I have a 1998 LX version. I bought it well used and unmaintained, and I finally have almost everything into working order, except my left turn signal is blinking very fast.

Here is what I have done and checked.
• Checked all bulbs including brake lights.
• Check the grounds that I could see.
• If the headlights are on it blinks at a normal speed, but it doesn't stay on very long during the blink cycle.
• If I apply the brakes with the headlights on it blinks very slow, but still is not on long enough.
• Applying the brakes with the headlights off has no effect on the fast blinking.
• Right turn signal is normal.
• All lights blink normal with the hazards on.

I'm leaning towards it being a ground problem, but I'm not sure where to look for one that would be causing my problem.

Thanks, Cory

Well I'm glad someone else is having this problem except me. Mine is the right turn signal though. I'm glad you mentioned speed of blinking when headlights are on... I have noticed different speeds but now that you mentioned it I realize it only blinks slow at night (headlights on) and fast in the day (headlights off).

Just letting you know you aren't alone. Sorry I can't help...

I've fixed the problem 2-3 times by changing bulbs. Mine didn't appear to be burned out, but I could usually tell that one corner would be blinking darker than the rest.

Changing the bulb on that corner has always fixed the problem for me, even if they didn't look burned out. I've never had to change a switch

If you read my post, I have checked all of the bulbs. Other help would be appreciated.

Have you read all the other posts about just checking your bulbs?
You checked them but have you tried replacing them?

I have not tried replacing them, doesn't make much sense, but I will try it.

That's what I'm saying. Mine didn't look burned out, but for some reason, the bulb was effed up in a way that was making it blink fast.

The blinker relay runs off of amperage running through the bulb, so any change in the resistance of the filament will cause the blink speed to change.

It very well could be the bulb, but a corroded connector has caused me this problem before.

Alright, thanks everyone, I will swap bulbs from right to left tomorrow to see if that changes anything.

Thanks again.

I stand humbly corrected. I swapped the right and left turn signal bulbs, and now they both work correctly.

Thanks everyone for your help, the problem seemed much more difficult than a bulb.

Thanks, Cory

x2.

As the other guy said, it's either a burned out bulb, soon to burned out bulb, or an incorrect bulb.

Right and left have nothing to do with the bulbs. They aren't directional like tires.

I understand that, but something about swapping them made the whole system work. Don't fix what's not broken.

Ok, I have a 03 Honda Odyssey that had a fast left turn signal indicator and the interment wiper was not working. I found the cause of the problem, on the driver side in the engine compartment, just left of the brake booster, there is a group of ground connection that are held in place by a 10 mm bolt. That bolt tends to get loose and it causes a faulty ground connection. take the bolt out, clean the eye hole and reinstall the bolt tight. Your signals, hazards, wipers, etc. will work correctly again. That is the real fix everyone has been looking for.

This isn't the Odyssey forum so your fix won't work here.
