Default Magnetic transmission oil drain plugs are worth using?

I have only been using this plug for 6 months. I can only imagine how bad it is having that much steel fillings floating around in there. It has got to reek havok on the bearings.

Anyone else ever get that much?

I'm just hoping the bearings aren't going bad.

It's even more fun when you tear apart your old transmission and find the fuzzy stock magnet along with ball bearings everywhere.

Bye bye ISB.

It is normal. The drain plug magnet isn't necessary either. The transmission has a magnet built into it that catches these particles. It makes for great lip gloss by the way.

I just made mac & cheese. The velveta kind. Just kidding, it's the GREAT VALUE kind. After I boiled the noodles, I poured the pot into a strainer to separate the water from the noodles. I stirred the noodles around in the strainer to make sure I got rid of all the water.

If I were to pour the noodles into an additional second strainer, would it do me any good?

Where is it, and how do you clean it?

(in googling around i found my way to this thread on the second page of google results)

Your illustration is not good.

Yeah, by getting more water out, in this case metal shavings. Since i imagine having More than one point of metal flowing past magnets will get a tiny bit more out of the fluid? I don't know.

Bense, is there any chance the internal magnet could become so covered in shavings that it would loose it's effectiveness? Say, after 200k miles?

My point being, there are certain cases where more isn't better, or beneficial.

The fluid flow within the transmission isn't turbulent enough to pull the fragments off the magnets. I have cleaned several magnets, and couldn't BELIEVE how much stuck to the magnet.

The drain plug magnet wouldn't hurt, I just stopped running mine.

i suppose at some point one crosses the line between over obsessing about keeping the car clean and minty fresh and just enjoying the damn car. after all, eventually it will get sold or crashed or wear out... right? (type r's excluded since they're garage queens for life! lolz)

I agree, pretty much. I obsess about keeping the engine and transmission in good working order because replacements are tough to find around here. I've always had to order them from out of state which is never cheap.

Thanks for the comments/thoughts people.

For those that are interested, here's some pics of the stock magnet

As you can see, the stock magnet does an awesome job grabbing the particles. Oddly enough, you can see in the 'squares' in the second pic, there's only magnet. in the older trans honda placed a magnet in each of these 'squares' But in the newer ones, they just have one magnet (like in the pic) Honda must have found that one magnet was sufficient enough.
