The diest blanket IS SFI approved and it would slow it down. It is the same thing that top fuel cars use and it stops their stuff pretty dang good.

"All front-wheel-drive or transverse-mounted applications using a
clutch and running 11.99 or quicker, for which an SFI Spec 6.1,
6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 flywheel shield is not commercially available, must
be equipped with a flywheel shield made of 1/4-inch-minimumthickness
steel plate. Shield must surround the bellhousing
completely except for area of bellhousing adjacent to differential
and axle shaft. Shield may be multi-piece, with pieces bolted
together using minimum 3/8-inch-diameter Grade 5 or M10 class
8.8 bolts; may be attached to engine and/or bellhousing.

So again. Someone should make a scatter sheild, NOT A BLANKET, for the D series. But since that isnt happening anytime soon, I will be making my own.

Apparently you dont need a scatter shield when you have a front mount.
looks like it may have caught the flywheel.

I just came back from Puerto Rico. I was at that race and saw that car in person. That thing look tore UP!! Luckily no one got hurt as parts could have flown into the firewall or all over the place and into the stands. I'll put up my own pics that I took later today.

judging solely on how dark the "leftover" flywheel parts are, my guess would be that it was a stock flywheel. Not shiny enough for aluminum.
Crazy though..

Thank God none of that flew into the stands! could have been much worse..This is worse than nitrous backfires! rebuild it and make it stronger!

I never said it was SFI approved. I said it wouldnt pass NHRA tech inspection.

I don't know if there is enough demand for a d series scattershield as far as manufacturing goes. Hell, maybe I should start making them.

The Deist blanket will fit the B and D transmissions. As far as containing a big blow up like this, I'm not sure on that. But it will contain it to a point.
