Along with cf hood, light lug nuts, insight battery, plus other weight reductions. I took 20 more pounds off my doors by removing extra sheet metal under the door panels. The windows still roll up and down and the door panels are in place. I also removed the "Ralph Nader" pipes in the doors. I did the same with the rear hatch. Big difference when comparing to a stock hatch. I havent weighed the car.

A car that weighs less is much more fun to drive I think, and handles way better. And ya, can be a bit faster on the 1/4mile.
But if the weight in the car is balanced properly then there is usually no need for a weight reduction. Unless the car is really heavy.
I don't bother with taking out back seats or anything like that, but I do remove everything from the trunk, and remove a/c and cruise control and stuff I never really use or can do without.

Not a DD. When inside the doors, there are access holes to service the regulator and door handle. I made the holes larger. I used a sharpie to draw out a template before I cut. The doors are really light! And its a lot cheaper than $1600 carbon fiber doors.

Re: Civic Hatchback Weight Reduction Thread!post your weight reductions
I just put my heavy 89 EF Si on a diet. At Mission raceway it weighed in at 2240 pounds. So far I have removed
Dash 23.5 pounds
Heater box/core/controls/ducts 17 pounds
carpet 8.5 pounds
firewall rubber underlay 4 pounds
rear seat 25 pounds
door panels including speakers 16 pounds
rear quarter trim panels with speakers and hatch lid 29 pounds
exhaust (I run just a downpipe now) 40.5 pounds
total 163.5 pounds
car should weigh in at 2076 pounds
it ran 13.1 at Mission before weight removal
just an estimate using an E.T. calculator with 230 flywheel hp it should run 12.79 with hp staying the same

well the only thing i dont have removed which will happen during the motor swap is the aBS pump which weighs a good bit. in my 94 hatch i have no....
carpet
air bags
sound deadning
ac and all parts (lines etc..,...)
ps
inner doors have been cutout for lock actuators (lost about 4 pounds in metal gaind a pound in actuators maybe)
jack
spare
dash bracing
no metal or styraphome bumper pieces
and plenty more im sure that i have lost more than 228 and with power costing more than pulling **** i have out i guess that its easier to trim down than build up.... hope this helped a little ill get a dry weight with everything gone and repost later

Re: Civic Hatchback Weight Reduction Thread!post your weight reductions
Why do I feel like these numbers are so similar to:
"Ok so guys I just bought a cold air intake, header, and muffler for my d15b8. Now the magazine said +15hp from the CAI, +25hp from the header, and +13hp from the muffler, and I believe everything I read. So I must be putting down like 123hp!"
I'm sure people have weighed their items so I'm not discrediting numbers, just seems goofy to think saving 100lbs will help you smoke your friends down the 1320 or win the next autocross event, really the only place weight reduction is going to actually help you is on a road course if the race is 50+ laps where a tenth to three tenths of a second a lap would actually be of some assistance to either catch someone in front of you or run away from someone you passed. EDIT: Oh and that's assuming you're good enough to race at that level anyway which 99.9% of the population isn't.
Disclaimer: I fully understand that in bracket drag racing and SCCA National Championship Autocross events every millisecond counts, my comments are directed at the average Joe who works 5 days a week but hits the strip or the autocross circuit once a month and maybe does a few HPDEs.

Also gutted cars were cool when i was 18, I thought I was a badass because i was rocking a fully gutted hatch. Stock motor, with a few bolt-ons. LOL! Now being 30 and when looking back at it all, I shake my head and lolz. Keep the interior in the car, and build a motor. That extra weight wouldn't make a huge difference on a DD car.

thanks for the idea of the thread... We just have too many all knowing KIDS here who dont understand weight reduction because their mother wont let them do that sort of thing in the car she bought for them.... Its all about looks with most of these children. The ones that do understand are following right along. Too many ****** ......

Weight reduction in my opinion is an all or nothing sort of thing, if you want a measurable performance boost you need to go all out on weight reduction, otherwise minimal weight reduction is going to net you next to no gains at all.
My personal goal is to reduce enough weight to offset a full cage install, which will do several things (a) improve chasis stiffness (b) improve safety on track (c) make people not want to ride in the car.
There is nothing wrong with weight reduction, just make sure if you do it you do it right.

A lot of what's being discussed here is in a topic I started here in 2002:
92-95 Civic Hatchback Weight Topic
My 1992 Civic CX hatch weighs 1990lbs. currently. Super fun to drive, and for the people puking out "weight reduction is dumb for a street car" it's all personal preference. If I want some level of refinement or comfort I'll hop in my 1990 Civic Wagon w/B18B swap, or the 2011 Fit Sport in the garage.
You can have it both ways.

There are a ton of reasons to reduce the weight of a car, for me it is a matter of fact that a lighter car drives better than one that is several hundred pounds more heavy. If I can gut a car enough to add the cage and still end up lighter than stock I will do it.
Given two cars with similar power to weight ratios, the lighter car will be the winner in my opinion. Mainly because the lighter car will be much more fun to drive than the over powered lard butt car.
