I'm in the process of swapping a b16a2 and i think i'm going to get some troubles with the immobilizer.
The engine is a b16a2 complete with ECU obd2b out of a 99 EK4 and it's going into a 96 EK3 obd2a car. (The old engine from my car is swapped into a ej9 including the transponder ring and immobilizer. This one runs perfect right after the first start) Now i took the transponder ring and immobilizer from the EK4 and here the problem is. It seems that when the facelift came they also started using different immobilizers, so i can't just plug the 99 immo into the 96 harness. Is there anyone here who knows how to workaround this or has the wire schemes of both so i can just replug the wires. Thanks!

I'm sorry to say I wont be much help with this one. We didn't get immobilizers on any '96 - '00 Civic here in north america. We did get them on '00 - '01 Integras (which you can remove and replace with a dummy chip to prevent a CEL) I would suggest you try that, or try a USDM or JDM ECU that lacks the immobilizer.

go obd1 with a jumper harness... quite a bit better for tuning and upgrades.
as for the ecu problem, you will need to swap in an immobilizer ring and a coded key/ecu pair. you can bypass this with a hondata s300 chipped ecu because you can turn on and off the immobilizer.

Xero, the idea was to swap over the ecu, immobilizer, transponder, and key from the donor car. That way it's going to work for sure!!
But now the 2 cars have different immo's its a smal bump. Is there anyone who knows what the immobilizer chip in the ecu looks like? And where to get the dummy and perhaps a diy to replace this? Thanks! Don't want to go with obd1 yet, first have to get this up and running

here is the guy to talk to, he said that he could bypass the chip for cheap though he would not discuss the exact details on the boards.
http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1471478 wrx-killer-Sti-eater is his name on honda tech. he can bypass your oem ecu transponder circit.

ok thanks, i read the thread and it seems like i have to send him the ecu.
Since i'm in europe, it's going to take a while. I do work at a Honda dealership so one of the mechanics is going to see if he can adjust the immobilizer, see how that works out.... If that's not going to work i'll get in touch with wrx-killer!

i personally use the oem Honda HDS diagnostic tool which allows for programming and diagnostic tools. its hard to get a old of but may be more reliable in the future. your honda techs will have it on hand to program. it is an OEM honda tool

ok, as far is i've read the ek's in the state didn't and the 99-00 integra's did have them.
Even if i use a obd2a ecu they have the immo in it, so wont be able to do that either.

USDM cars that had immobilizers were Prelude 97-01, Civic 2001+, Integra GSR 98+, Integra/RSX 2002+. NSX 2000+. CRV 2002+, S2000 99+, Odyssey ?, Insigt ?, Accord 98+, Fit ?,
immobilizers are pairs of programmed Keys/ECUs. The immobilizer Contains an RFID chip that communicates a lengthy code that the computer verifies. you can program any ecu to accept any coded key with the correct length of code. the immobilizer ring acts as a power source/ receiver (no rfid has an internal power source, it receives power externally just like credit cards you dont have to swipe) and receives the power, transmits the code which in turn allows the ecu to start the car. the immobilizer just has to be programmed by the windows based unit, not the old green screen unit, they dont seem to work as well and have damaged some ECUs. Hondata has a write up on the kPro chipped unit, but it works the same with all ECUs.

Xero, thank-you for your very complete answer. It seems that i have to go spend some time with the hds tool and a mechanic!
I hope it all is going to work out a lot easier than i thought it would be!

No '98 Integras had an immobilizer, they were only featured on all '00 - '01 models.

i know its an old thread but i was working on my 00 Ls steering column, i accidently cracked the immobilizer unit in half ans the little metal box with a weird pin had the wires cut. now i have a crank no start. ive tried a chipped p28 but it didnt start. I later realized at work i still had the immo plugged to the harness while using the obd1 ecu, maybe i have unplugged it? IDK but someone please help. Honest to God, this is my DD and i need it back. I missed out on V2lab because of this
