Default Meet the Avalanche. Aluminum+TIG+Skate meets Snow

Hey all. Just wanted to share one of my little projects I just completed with yous guys. One of my passions is long boarding, its great for transportation and just general cruising the campus ect. I have a couple 46 inch boards but my showpiece is a Cindrich billet board. Well since snow season is upon us I decided to make a little snow conversion. Unlike a snowboard, this board still has the trucks (Randal 180's) attached and should allow it to carve just like a long board on the white stuff.

My boss was nice enough to let me do this after hours and I had the skis completed in about 3 hours all together. These were designed for hardpack/icey conditions, they are a little narrow with runners that stick down about 3/8s under the skis. Next week i plan to make a powder set. They will be a little longer and wider, they will span almost the entire length of the truck to eliminate any buildup and will only have one center set runner per ski.

As of now my 4x4s are untested but there are a few companies that make a similar product that seems to work well so i have no doubts.

Now introducing the CTD-Fab Avalanche

And Here is a little vid of the trucks doing their magic with the skis.

I plan to find some snow on sunday. Will try and take vids for you guys but with the massive amount of snow we had fall it may be too powdery to work well.

Here is a vid of a short board with skis

I do plan on falling quite a bit as ive never snowboarded before. But if you ain't falling you ain't trying hard enough.

snowskating is much harder than snowboarding, but way more fun too.

I'm dying to give it a real run! I'm not trying to get all kick flippy tricky with it just cruise the snow ya know. What kind of setup did you ride?

For sure. I gonna have to be careful not to take anyone out, lol. I used a cheap dog leash on the first try but gonna see what the ski shop has.

So Sunday was supposed to be the big snow day....didn't go as planned

Halfway to Payson and some real powdery stuff I had to stop and settle for an inch or two of snow because my GF wasn't feeling so hot. My Gf, her 3 year old, and I ended up hiking a little on Mount Ord and it had some snow on the access road in the shade. Not enough to have any fun but just enough to prove the concept is good to go.

I definitively need to make some wider smoother skis for the powder and I really am contemplating making a whole new lightweight snow only upper deck. The deck and skis right now weight about 30 lbs!!!

Here is a pic of our trip. Didn't really get to snow skate but it worked amazing as a kid carrier, lol.

This was right after we told her she probably shouldn't be eating that snowball, lol...kids

I am trying to plan another snow trip, hopefully a successful one, this weekend.
