Is it worth putting a turbo on with 100kmiles on my gsr?
I am contemplating putting a turbo on my gsr, but my engine has 100k miles on it now, it does run excellent, but is it really worth it to do? any opinions will help thanks.

Yes. 100K miles isn't a lot on a GSR...in today's standards, that's considered low miles. Many people turbo their cars well over 100,000 miles...but if you're that concerned about it, get a motor rebuild. How much power are you looking to make?

first off, thanks for your reply, Im looking for 250 or so at the most, ok well my next question for you is, Im looking to get into autocross, is a turbo something that would make better for the setup, should I start a new thread for a question like that? thanks again

i would rebuild the motor...putting aftermarket internals, then if you dont already find a header, full exhaust that fits your style...that would give you more horespower...after that if your still not satisfied with the power, throw a turbo kit, you would be replacing the headers thou for the turbo.....

My motor had 160K on it before I put a turbo on it. Only pushed 230hp, but it ran perfect. Not all motors are the same, where someone else with over 160K, there motor might not handle it.

Yes again. Turbocharging you car is the most significant way to gain HP. If you're looking to get into something like auto-cross, I would also suggest getting a nice suspension set-up, which can be costly as well. I would get a strut bar kit, performance shocks, and performance springs or coilovers, stabilizers, sway bars...you'll just have to look around at what's best and what would be the most efficient cost wise. Depending on how much money you have to spend, of course the best thing to do would be to fully build your motor, or have it fully built and then turbo it. However, If you're only looking to make 250HP, you should be able to do that very safely on stock internals (meaning no need to fully build the motor). So, I would look into getting some performance suspension parts and a turbo kit. With a turbo kit, 250HP will be very easy to make.

Re: Is it worth putting a turbo on with 100kmiles on my gsr?
I turbo'd my GSR with about 100k miles. I just did headstuds and an oem headgasket. I made 289whp@11psi (mustang dyno). First I did a nice turbo setup and now if my motor goes I will rip it out and build it. After being turbo for over a year I know what power levels I want, what type of build I'd be happy with, and of course I now have much more knowledge.
Turbo's can be high maintenance. There is always something to upgrade, clean , or just play around with.

Absolutely nothing else done to motor. My setup is
-Precision sc50
-equal length manifold
-full custom 3" exhaust
-Precision intercooler
-tial 38mm wastegate
-RC 750 cc injectors
-2.5" chargepipes
-hondata s300
I didn't cheap out on anything. These parts aren't the best by any means but they are not from an ebay kit either. If I want to go big on my next build most of my parts will work.

If you're considering an e-bay turbo kit...check out www.xs-power.com I've had 3 friends that have used these kits and only run into the problem of a cracked exhuast manifold...but if you get a kit with a cast iron manifold, or get a cast iron manifold that will work with your kit, it should do fine. I highly suggest getting a kit from xs-power if you're on a tight budget. The most bang for your buck.

I think they are just kinda slopped together...I have no experience with them, but people always recommend to stay away from them...seriously though, check out www.xs-power.com they are cheaper than e-bay kits, and I can vouch for these being as my friends have had them in their cars, and they worked fine.

They are hit and miss with quality. Downtime sucks, and if a manifold cracks or the turbo takes a dump on you with an ebay kit, the manufacturer is for damn sure not going to replace it for you.

haha, i've got almost 160,xxx on the clock and i'm getting ready to boost my car. just don't get stupid with it and turn it up way high. keep it reasonable and get it tuned, and don't beat the ever living **** out of it on a daily.

Yea that is what i figured, I just never had a turbo car before, and I like this car, so figured I can turbo it fairly cheap, just hoping that it will hold up.

lol you say "don't beat the ever living **** out of it on a daily" like you've done that before...lol...but yeah, don't run high boost on stock internals...keep it mid to low, depending on turbo size...
