Just got a 97 accord.
picked it up today. Its a auto 4cy 97 LX and has 120k miles on it. Got it for 5k. Its pretty clean, and was well taken care of. Just a couple questions..what are some things that generally start to go wrong with these cars at this age and mileage....I looked it over, and drove it and it drove great...didnt smoke, didnt leak anything etc. Anything I should check or lookout for?

Depends on the area guys.
Just because you can get it for cheaper in your area doesn't mean it's the same for him (why do you think KBB asks you for your zip?)

bro if you want to buy your honda parts for cheap instead of at a dealership go here. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/
I just bought a water pump, seals and gaskets for it, and a timing belt. It all came out to be $108 for everything including shipping. I received it the next day. They are based in NY. Parts are official Honda Parts.

Thanks. Will keep that site, in mind if I need anything.
Anyway, some of you guys say that 5k may be high, and honestly...I don't know...it was about the going rate...with this mileage and condition...that I seen anyway in my area.. I drive a escalade and do 70 miles a day monday through friday and gas is just getting rediculous to drive it everyday, so I only bought this thing for a daily driver so I don't have to put so many miles on the SUV. Original owner tells me she was getting about 30 on the highway. Sound about right?

Re: (gqstatus05)
I get between 30-32, average 30.5-31 on the interstate. I find that using cruise control on the interstate gets me better fuel economy. The A/C takes away between 0.5-1MPG from not using A/C on the interstate. I turn off the A/C every time I need to speed up, merge on the interstate, etc. I roll my windows down when I am going less than 40 MPH. My gas gauge doesnt work too well, so I use my millage to fill up. I fill up in the city at about 330 and about 400 with pure interstate driving. In the city I get about 25-27 MPG.
I have a 5spd and driver VERY conservative though. I have about 175k miles on my car now.

timing belt and pump if not done
oil pan gaskets like to leak
axle boots-if they are cracking buy boot kits from honda (aftermarket axles are junk)
sway bar endlink bushings
also prob a good idea to flush your brake fluid, change tranny fluid, adjust valves when doing the t-belt and check condition of plugs, wires cap and rotor-and don't buy aftermarket ignition parts-junk

Re: (spoonfedcrx)
autotrader, etc seriously..i saw some on there going for more than that. With gas the way it is...I don't see these cars dropping much in price...mean while...my Used SUV that I paid 25k for a year ago...is now only worth 12. Sad..

Just though i would share. I have not seen the episode myself, but supposedly on myth busters, they drove one car with windows down and one with a/c up , and they both go the same gas mileage, again I have not seen the ep but i really want to, to see the variables, just thought id share sense the topic seemed to turn into a gas mileage thing.

They found that at high way speeds (or greater than like 45) with the AC on you would get better mileage due to less drag.
At lower speeds it made little difference.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I didn't know that, interesting.

Actually, for about a year, when I just got my Accord, and started taking road trips, we used to ALWAYS drive with the windows down 'to save gas'. I could never understand why I got such terrible gas millage. I would get 27-27.5MPG of pure interstate driving. One day I was bored and I turned the A/C on to see what I would get. I was astonished to get 33MPG. After that, I did some research, and I realize that I can get stock or close to stock fuel economy by just rolling up the windows on the interstate, and A/C doesn't affect me *that* much. Maybe 1/2-1 MPG less. I do turn off my A/C every time I need to accelerate, or if I am going up an incline.
I have done trips with 100% A/C use, using the cruise control exclusively, and I still get pretty good fuel economy.
