shift play
im kinda new to the honda scene but i just bought a 1996 honda civic dx coupe manual with a short shifter...there is quite a bit of loosness to the shifter and even when i put it in gear there is a bit of play in gears not much but enough to get annoying i was told that i may be because it is an older car....i replaced the shifter bushings with energy pushings about a month ago and it had a brand new clutch installed before i bought it i am wondering if there is anything i can do to tighten up the shifting again??

Re: shift play (black-96coupe)
Its probably the little black bushings on the bottom of the short shifter, or the short shifter that was installed is the wrong size where it is bolted to the shifter rod [that goes to the tranny]. If it is the style that has bearings it might need to have spacers in between the short shifter and the mounting bracket.

My first EK was just like that. I had the bushings on the bottom of the short shifter replaced and it was a lot tighter. If you say you already replaced the bushings and its still loose I suggest getting OEM shifter. Besides these Short shifters aren't that necessary, you can do just fine with the stock shifter.
