Official OBDI H22a into OBDII 5th gen Thread
Doing this swap correctly, IMO, does not involve rigging the CKP sensor.
This swap happened a long time ago for me but i will give a rundown of everything that was swapped in order to make this work correctly to the best my memory can serve me.
You are essentially making the external parts of the JDM H22a, OBDII.
This means taking the following parts from the USDM OBDII motor and swapping them to the JDM h22a:
complete intake manifold (fuel rail, injectors...etc) - unless you want to use th 345cc injectors and wire the injector clips and resistor box in.
Exhaust manifold
distributor
COMPLETE oil pump assembly including the CKP (crank sensor)
lower timing cover
oil pan and baffle
intermediate shaft (halfshaft) - the one that bolts to the block
and if i remember correctly, we swapped the thermostat over as well.
OBDII balancer shaft gear
If you are going to use AC and power steering, the pump and the compressor along with their respective mounting brackets will need to be swapped over as well.
While i did this conversion i also swapped to the h23 manual tensioner which i recommend people to do since you already have to take everything apart.
For others who have done this swap, if i left anything out let me know.
NOTE:
it is your choice to run the OBDII ecu or to convert to OBDI via conversion harness. However, if you decide to convert to OBDI, GET THE ENGINE TUNED.
Do not put a chipped ecu in there without setting a tuning appointment. Whether it be street or dyno tuning, preferably both.

you gotta use an oil pump from the 97 usdm only, as it has the same size crank journals...i was told....the pump for a 97, and the pumps for 98-01 have different part numbers from honda, visibly identical though, which is odd

Blake, you're definitely right about the oil pump and the distributor. The rest of the stuff should be the same though. What is different about the obd2 IM?
I would definitely switch to the obd2 oil pan, the aluminum one is way better than the steel crap on the 4g.

Its easier to just swap over the manifold than it is to swap rails and injectors over then wire the OBDI clips onto the OBDII harness. The lower timing cover doesnt fit correctly once you swap over the oil pump.

You're right. The 97 oil-pump part number is the same as the 4g H22's. A new part number starts in 98.

i was just wondering if the 98-up pump could be used for some reason, there is a local dude parting a 2000 model, and i was hoping the crank snout where the oil pump slides on would be similar, but the crank seals are different numbers too...damn 97 car

of course they fit, when i was running the blacktrax spacer, i was using a JDM manifold.
i'm saying that since the engine is already out, its easier just to take off the 10 or so nuts and swap everything in full and be done with it.
i am running a 98 pump on my block.

My bad, yea I meant 96.
92-95, 96-97, 98-01 oil pumps are all different.

hi there, i'm about to put a jdm h22 in my 99base, now when you mention intermediate shaft (halfshaft), what exactly do you mean, do you have a picture perhaps. Is there another term? I really apreciate your helpk, this thread helped me a lot

the part of the driver side axle that has a mount that bolts to the back of the block.

I think you should add the balancer shaft drive sprocket to your list. It has the marks or magnets that the sensor reads. If you use the old one you won't get any spark.

update...
Melling m232 pump for 96 h22a1...WILL NOT WORK...
it is mislabeled, and is for SOHC F-Series engines....it has no provision for the H-series auto tensioner...

on my H22A swap I didnt even touch the intake manifold and mine has been running fine, the only things i swapped were...
Oil Pump and crank sensor
Thermostat
Alternator
and I bought a conversion wiring harness instead of hacking it up
I also replaced all the seals and timing belt tensioner along with the timing belt
Other than those things shes been running like my old stock H22A4 without having to switch the intake manifold, Now im just a little bit curious as to why you did that??
