Default Added another vintage Honda to the stable: 1983 Civic 1500S

I probably shouldn't have bought this car (to many other projects that need finished), but I just couldn't resist. The price was right, and it just so happened to be close to me, so how could I pass this up.

It's a 1983 Civic 1500S, with 124K miles. IMO, the best color combo for the year, black on black with red accents. It needs some work, it isn't running as of now, and the body needs some rust repair, but overall, it's a very solid car. And for $400, how can I go wrong, it's probably worth that or more in parts alone.

Here's the one picture I have of it so far, from the thisoldhonda.org ad by which I found it. I'll post some more pics soon.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this car yet. The S600 is going to be an OEM resto no questions asked, so I might do something custom with this car, maybe a B swap or something, perhaps I'll make a little racer out of it for the local track. Then again, if I can ge the original engine running with little effort, I might just leave it how it is, we'll see.

It was in a town called Conway, just a few towns over from me, about 1/2 hour from Pittsburgh.

Since you have so many projects already, would you be willing to sell this one or another (if you've got another N600)?

Sorry, I don't have an N600 (just the S, is that what you meant?).

I may consider selling this car, hadn't really planned on buying it to just turn around and sell it, but for the right figure, I guess anything is for sale.

S600. Good call. I was doing some research on wikipedia earlier on the N360/600 and got confused. Send me an email (jomac_5@hotmail.com) with a figure you'd be happy with. Thanks!

Normally, yes. However, I can't receive PMs for some reason. I'm guessing because I'm so new.

Hey, that a civic mk2 with a 1500 engine ?
In France we only have the 1300 version, I was just looking on one as a daily, but it is too far. One day I think I will buy a civic mk2 or mk3 for a daily use.
B-series swap wiil be cool, but why don't you make a good preparation with the original engine an some good carbs ? Less perfomances but more fun, no ?

I still haven't fully decided what I'm going to do with this car. If the original engine ends up running great, then that's what I'll probably do. If the original engine ends up needing to much work to get going, then I'll probably swap it out.

Finally was able to snap a few pics of the car:

I don't know what it is, these pics looked decent on my laptop, so I loaded them into photobucket, now they look all dark.

This was the only exterior photo that's even half decent.

Interior shots aren't too bad. Just need to get a new set of floor mats.

Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get her running again. The inspection stickers say the car hasn't been on the road since 2004, so I hope nothings locked up or gunked up. The down pipe from the header is bad, and I've got a peice to replace it, so hopefully that's all it needs.

Man you got the cool optional center console that has a cubby hole underneath the dash. I've been looking for one of those for a while! Neither one of my '83 1500 S cars came with it!

I guess I"ve got a lot to learn about these car's, I didn't know that was optional. If I ever decide to turn this into a little track car, you've got first dibs on that peice if you want it.

A little update on the 83.

This thing is now running GREAT. I had an issue with the original carb, so I bought a re-man'd unit off ebay, slapped that sucker on there, now she's running beautifuly. I've been running it back and forth from work for the past couple of days now, I may have found a new daily driver. This car isn't "fast" by any means, but it sure is fun.

I pretty much decided that I'm not going to swap this car. I just can't bring myself to do it, the original engine just runs to nice to get rid of it. Maybe one day if it blows up, but not right now.

So my plans are to just add some tasteful mods. I want to eventually get a set of quad carbs for it and eliminate the rats nest of vacuum lines, get a header and exhaust, lower it a bit, nice set of wheels and that should be about it. The only thing I really dislike about the car are the rearview mirrors. I think I might buy a set of cheap knock-off spoon mirrors for say an EF/EG, and see if I can't retro-fit them onto this car. That, or I seen some pics of these cars with Fender mounted mirrors, that might be neat.
