Default angel eye headlight install

I recently picked up a pair of black housing angel eye projectors.

Ive been searching on how to do the install, but some questions are left unanswered.

The OEM headlights have sockets for 3 bulbs: headlight (hi/lo), corner turn signal, and parking lights (running).

The aftermarket projectors have 4 sockets. What the hell??

check it out for yourself:

OEM headlight: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

Aftermarket headlight: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

Do i simply add another bulb for headlight?

After the install is done, will I have to ANGLE the headlights?
If so, how can this be done?

ANybody have any experience installing headlights on their EM2?
Maybe somebody has a DIY or writeup...
Pics would help too!

Thanks guys and gals!

the aftermarket ones REPLACE your existing headlights.

after you install then, youll have glare and poor visibility anyways unless you get some real xenons so aiming them wont matter at all

its real simple to install headlights... just unplig everything, unscrew them from the car, screw new ones on, reconnect everything.

dude, I KNOW that they replace your OEM headlights, LOLOL

and i have some a.o.k. Silverstar bulbs. all my bulbs are intact.

tha question is...

what is the deal with the 3 sockets for OEM and 4 SOCKETS on the aftermarkets?

do i need to purchase another bulb?

and i would ASSUME that ANY headlight would need to be re-angled after installation, No?

Lol.

Lets get started here:

When you purchase these headlights, you do not use your existing bulbs. The headlights generally use H1s for the high beam, and H3s for the low beam, and most come with them. Both are standard H series bulbs and probably pretty dim and yellowish. Your stock turn signals and parking lights fit right in. High and low beams are split between non projector for high, and projector for low beam. There is no additional wiring, the headlights come with a connector that you plug your 3 pronged headlight connector from the car into.

You can install an HID kit by cutting up your current headlight harness, and the connector that comes with these lights, as they are plug and play. Is it worth it? No. Does it make sense? absolutely not. These are not HID projectors, they are designed to work with halogen lights. You will get terrible glare running an HID setup through this kit.

To aim these headlights, it is very similar to aiming stock headlights, except you have to aim 2 different lights on each side. They have a geared wheel which you adjust with a philips screwdriver, and each light, both high and low beam can be adjusted left and right, and up and down.

To wire up the angel eyes, you can do it several ways, depending on how you want them to light up. Keep in mind that most of the LEDs that come with these things are incredibly dim and you will only be able to see them at night. Want to see them during the day? buy a BMW. Or pop the headlights open in the oven and replace the bulbs. Two of the most common ways to light them are only when the headlights are on, and always, whenever the car is on.

To have them on with the headlights, you need to cut into your signal harness, wiring the red from the new light to the red of the signal harness, and black to black.

To light them whenever the car is on, I went into the interior, ran a wire from the aux power (cig lighter) to a switch, then went out into the engine bay to the lights. This way, they are only on when I want them to be.

When you purchase these for an 01-03, it gets rid of the amber cover for the turn signals, leaving bare bulbs for signals. Most civics did not come with amber bulbs because of the amber lens. With these headlights, it becomes painfully apparent how yellow these bulbs are. I went with superbright white LEDs for the parking lights, and white LEDs + resistors for the turn signals.

Inspect the seal around the light before you install them, and fill in any gaps with silicone. These lights, depending on the manufacturer, are notorious for letting a tiny bit of water in, and fogging up. Mine have been through a Canadian winter, with all kinds of snow and rain and salt on them, no leaks or fogging yet.

Good luck.

aw crap nevermind. I wish someone made headlights that my hid kit would not cause glare in. not talking about a retrofit either.

so you're sayin that even if a retrofit HID kit is installed within these "projectors" glare will be horrible no matter what? so is the HID going to burn these "projectors" since they arent made to handle HIDs?

a retrofit HID kit is different than a plug and play HID kit.

A retrofit implies that you are fitting a new projector lens into a headlight housing, ie removing the old halogen projector lens, and putting in a new one designed for HIDs.

If you put in a new lens, one designed for HIDs, you will not get a glare. If you put a plug and play HID kit into a halogen projector, more often than not you will get a horrid glare, instead of the fine cutoff you are supposed to get.

okayyyyyy

so i checked the back of my projectors today..
i picked them up for a cheap $50 and they are "sonar" brand.

the back of the housings say H1, H1, 7443, and 168: all bulb types (hi/lo/running/signal).

question:

for the 7443 and 168 bulbs (running and signal), do i HAVE to run 'filament' bulbs?

or can i go with LED's?
i've seen them advertised as running/signal lights, but don't they require a load resistor to function properly and not burn out?
i've also seen 'inverted' LED bulbs? whats the deal with those?

i want to run 5000k Xenon H1 bulbs for HI/Lo beams
amber LED turn signals
and blue LED running lights (to go with the blue Halo angel eyes)

lemme know what u guys think!!

Only the signals require load resistors, and it is not because they will burn out, LEDs cant. Its because LEDs put alot less resistance on an electrical circuit compared to your filament bulb. Its basically like what happens when you burn out a signal, your signal blinks really really fast. That is what you need the resistor for.

Here is mine, you guys may think its rice but i like it. And yes, where I live, white signals are in fact legal. But with the LED signals and parking lights, they are actually bright enough to park the car without headlights.

bio, do you think that the blue led parking lights will be rediculously bright, enough to get the attention of the cops? lol

im looking for that super-whitish-bluish glow, but if the led's are gonna be too bright, do u think i should go with regular blue filaments??
