97 Accord Valve Adjustment?

97 Accord Valve Adjustment?
I have seen some DIY'ers online about valve adjustments, but it wasn't much more than what I have already done.
So here's the problem. I have a 97 Accord, F22B1... not clear on the last number.. but i think thats right(too lazy to go look again...) well the rockers are pingin pretty bad. I opened up the valve cover, placed out lots of towels.... and cranked 'er up. Of course, oil rained out like a misty breaze... hmmm yum! well... I took a tube to each valve and the other end to my ear to hear which onces are pingin... Id turn the car off... set the cam so that the valve was closed on each lock nut I loosed. Then tightened the screw with a flat head screwdriver.... well... needless to say.. the pinging didnt stop. One time I even tightened it to much and the engine was bogging like the exhaust valve wasnt closing(obviously from over tightening). Well... So I loosend it up to the last setting where it wasn't bogging. Still noisy... well.... so I get online to find a DIY'er... and it said something about a special tool.. but that was for the DOHC h22 head.. i dont know if its the same set up or not... mine is a SOHC.. so.. I don't know...
If you guys got any ideas, lemme know. I'm bout ready to pull the head off my other honda and swap them. They are both f22 sohc's. Same head... but id rather just fix it... lemme know if you got any ideas to eleminate the pinging.. its quite annoying.

simply/general note about valve lash adjustment
too tight=burnt valve
too losse=tipping

If you don't do that you're asking for trouble.
It's more difficult to reach the adjusters on a DOHC engine, so there's a special tool. It's basically a socket with a screwdriver in the center so you can hold the adjuster while tightening the jam nut. On your SOHC engine you can do that with a normal wrench & screwdriver.

I was thinking the same thing as I was reading his post.
Here is a good write-up on how to do a valve adjustment, no pictures but well explained I think.

Well, I was doing it by ear.. to see when the sound stopped.. but.. it never did. I'm gonna get a feeler gauge... and see if that helps. But still.. even if I tightened it to much, the pinging should have stopped right??
Any suggestions to what I should do if the pinging doesnt stop?? or what the hell else the pinging noise could be?

Maybe it was simply more than one valve adjustment being off. If they're nearby, you can still only adjust one at a time, so it never goes away by that method.
If that's not it, you should try to pinpoint the location of the noise.
Spark knock? Check your spark timing.

Everyone be nice to Steven. He's sensitive. I've heard the noise myself and the tap is coming from the top rocker to valve contact even at zero lash. Doesn't sound like spark knock or pinging althought it's not out of the question because he's running a bad O2 with who knows what kind of fuel/air mixture.

You are not being very thoughtful about the way the engine works! DUMBASS
And BTW don't you think it might just be a little easier to swap out valve trains as opposed to swapping heads?? DUMBASS

I mean we are talking about measurements in the thousandths. I don't see how anyone could do it by ear or just do it by eye because they've done it a million times. At least not correctly. But then again I'm no mechanic so don't listen to me.

All the car's I've ever owned need to be adjusted by measurement.
Some were shim&bucket, so once they're correct they stay that way almost forever.
